Sabbath information and resources

I'm going to ask our Mod to make this a sticky thread in the Tradtional section.

My husband and I used to have tons and tons of information typed up and saved on our computer...about Sabbath, and about death, etc.

We lost it all to a virus, so I thought I'd make a more permanent record here online that everyone can add to and keep here.

Feel free to add any links or any essays you've typed up in this thread for easy reference.

Was God's Sabbath Commandment Nailed to the Cross?

Colossians 2:14-17

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

As Adventists, inevitably those verses have been offered up to us as “proof” that the Sabbath commandment is no longer binding and was nailed to the cross, because it was a shadow of things to come.

As I look at the list....food and drink....holydays.....new moons.....and sabbath days, I wonder if people think that all of those things were a shadow of things to come? Food and drink for instance. Were they nailed to the cross? Are they something we don't need today? (Of course we need them!)

Were new moons nailed to the cross? Or do we still have them today? (Of course we do).

It is my humble opinion that JUDGMENT FROM OUR FELLOW MAN was nailed to the cross. "Therefore let no man judge you...." Corporal punishment, and the right to stone our brothers and sisters.....gone. A shadow of things to come.

If God's commandment was nailed to the cross, so were food and drink, and the new moons. :)

One of common misunderstandings on sabbath even by SDAs...

SOP tells us in no uncertain terms that the Sabbath strictly commemorates the creation, it is not a shadow of any kind. It does not point to our future rest with Christ.

In Eden, God set up the memorial of His work of creation, in placing His blessing upon the seventh day. The Sabbath was committed to Adam, the father and representative of the whole human family. Its observance was to be an act of grateful acknowledgment, on the part of all who should dwell upon the earth, that God was their Creator and their rightful Sovereign; that they were the work of His hands and the subjects of His authority. Thus the institution was wholly commemorative, and given to all mankind. There was nothing in it shadowy or of restricted application to any people. {PP 48.1}

I agree, I just know that when you're discussing the Sabbath with other Christians, they really don't care what the SOP says.

Sometimes you just have to step in with some common sense (such as food and drink would've been nailed to the cross too if that's what those verses really imply), and after they realize the ONE verse they use to fight against keeping that commandment does NOT say what they think it does, they'll dig further for the truth on their own.

Yes, I don't use SOP quotes for reasoning with 'outsiders'.

The quote from PP was for adventists. I've seen many, even a great evangelist Dr. Steven Bhor say in his series 'cracking the Genesis code' that the sabbath points forward to our rest with Christ in heaven.

We need to be united in the truth in proclaiming the Three Angels' message.
