russia-tries-to-stem-panic-over-plummeting-ruble-central-bank-steps-in.html
Russia's currency, the ruble, has fallen 35% in value since August.
The sanctions that the EU and NATO countries have placed on Russia, have
begun to have a cummulative bite on the Russian economy.
The lowering value of the ruble, means more inflation in Russia, for average
citizens. But, Putin claims that it will not make any difference for the average
Russian citizen.
Putin's popularity in Russia remains high. This is not suprising. Even during Stalin's
great purges, his popularity remained high among Soviet citizens. After all, if you
voiced disapproval of Stalin, you silently "disappeared". And, the Russian dictators
controlled almost all of the "news" outlets available to citizens.
Russia, and the Soviet Union, have always had a hard time trying to motivate
average citizens to work hard, as there just was not much opportunity to change
one's place in life, through hard work. The historic Russian joke of the average
worker was, "We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us."
Recently, we see a huge rise in Communist Chinese citizens who are trying to enter
the united States, for a chane to live in a society that REALLY DOES OFFER OPPORTUNITY
for advancement, through hard work.
