Rules for TE?

I think we only really need to say what the general direction of this subforum is, and define a limit for what specifically would be considered "off-topic" to be moved elsewhere.

I actually feel there shouldn't be any rules at all. It seems like that is the way its been for sometime, and I haven't seen any problems arise because of it? So why change it now?

I think that if we need to make rules it should be when problems arise, nor prior.

What happens if I feel like talking about homosexual necrophiliac ducks for absolutely no reason? Surely we must define what is "on-topic" to know when something is off-topic.

Also (as a general question to everyone here) will people here be comfortable with utter critics? Or would you feel that criticism of TEism is better taken to OT than to remain here? Personally I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with it at all but I'm not everyone.

I don't see our sub-forum as having so much traffic that we need to put some rules on paper.

I know that I sometimes have a theological question that might not be directly related to origin, which I would appreciate hearing the TE perspective on, rather then going to GT or GA and get bombarded by creationist exegesis. I would hate to feel that somehow I am limited to what I can discuss here, and then feel like not discussing it all.

At the same time I would understand the need for such restrictions of thread topics if the sub forum was like Red Lobster on a Saturday night, but it's relatively lull for most of the week, so if some topic livens things up here a bit I welcome it, even if it takes homosexual necrophiliac ducks to do it (no pun intended).

I think the rules should be explicitly loosely enforced. That is, we should define the topic as theistic evolution and discussion of Christianity/science/misc. ramblings among TEs and absolutely allow questions, comments and even follow-up questions from non-theistic evolutionists. A creationist should feel free to debate in a limited context in a thread they started and that's where the rules should be loosely enforced. If a problem arises where the debate is long enough and serious enough that it doesn't really belong in the TE forum it should be moved or continued in OT.

I've seen a couple newbies start debates here and nobody had the slightest problem with it. I've never seen a problem in this forum (people generally respect when we gently nudge them to the OT forum). I've also valued the forum and even though it's very slow, some of the discussions we've had here have edified me greatly and I'd hate to see it go.

In short, the topic is TE and Theology/Science from a TE perspective. Questions are welcome and debate will be loosely restricted at the discretion of those participating in the debate (of TEs of course).

I agree totally. We need rules to apply if discussion gets out of hand, the only question is how to frame rules so they wouldn't be abused if we had say, a TE with an itchy report button finger, which we don't, but we could.

Abuse of rules (in this particular case) would be quite easy to work around...ya'll have input in reports now, and I'm familiar enough with the subforum to know what would and wouldn't fly.
