  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I pray the rosary. Although, lately, not as often as I would like , but it is my goal to pray it more this summer. :) I was not always a fan of the rosary- when I was younger it was really difficult for me to concentrate, and I was uncomfortable praying it for many reasons.
Now I love it, though I haven't been praying it as much as I used to, and sometimes it is still hard for me to concentrate. But it's a great way to meditate on the life of Christ, and brings me a lot of peace, and is just a nice way to set aside time to spend with God.

I always pray afterwards too :) I don't know if it sounds strange but it makes me feel closer to Jesus and Mary. Prayer only makes me feel closer to God, not Mary. When I visited my local church he said that not many young people pray the rosary now, I think it's a right pity!

Yes I do, I find it very strange. When I pray I feel comforted by God and not Mary, but with the Rosary it feels like them both :) I think its because im aware of trying not to overshadow God with the Virgin Mary while praying, but in the Rosary you concentrate on her quite a bit :) (the hail marys)

I just am reminded of how the angels in the bible always make it clear that they are not to be worshiped. I'm not saying you are worshiping Mary or anything, I know you are not. I think it's strange that if you can feel Mary that she would allow her presence to be felt at the same time as God's would.

it'll be easier if I explain it from the top. The rosary is the traditional method of praying to the virgin Mary. Depending on the day of the week depends on which of the holy Mysteries you pray upon. There are 20 holy mysteries in all, which are sepersted into four groups of five.

The rosary is divided into five decades. At the beginning if each decade you announce the holy mystery and concentrate on that as you pray one holy father, ten hail marys and one glory be.

When you start the rosary you make the sign of the cross and say the apostles creed. You finish with the hail! Holy queen.

The rosary remembers the important events of the lives of Mary and Jesus.

That's a very simplified explanation, there's a lot of repetition in the rosary but I find it meditative and relaxing. You can find more info online if you're interested :)

Personally, I think it's like how praying with friends or family or worshiping with the members of my church makes me feel closer to them, but it also brings us closer to God, because He is the one who unites us- we are one body.

And Mary is in heaven, united to Jesus and completely selfless and only wants to bring us closer to Jesus when we go to her. Much like a devout friend or parent inspires and encourages you in your faith. :)

On the other hand, if I was praying the rosary and only thinking about Mary and not God, then I think I might be praying it for the wrong reasons...
