  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rome Sweet Home

I got my Amazon order last night.

Man, this book is awesome. "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott and Kimberly Hahn.

If anyone doesnt know, they were both rabid anti-Catholics growing up. As Scott studied Scripture more and more he was horrified to discover that the Church was right on topic after topic.

He eventually converted and his wife followed, but only after nearly splitting up over his conversion.

Scott is now one of the best Catholic authors around, as far as I can tell. The book reads so nicely.

I typically can't read very long in one sitting, but I got halfway through it as soon as I got it, and I would have kept reading all the way through if my wife hadn't ordered me to bed!

:D

Anti-catholic only barely describes him, He almost left the seminary he was at when they took the part about the RCC being the mother of all harlots out of the westminster confession.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.

I wonder if I should speak up or not. I read much of the book, but was disappointed overall.

I can see how the book could be helpful to someone not wrestling with some of the more intricate problems facing a potential convert, someone with general Evangelical Protestant questions, but for myself, who is already convinced of the Protestant positions weakness but is wrestling with questions between the various bodies that have maintained a historic and ecclesiastic continuity with the undivided Church, it leaves one feeling empty.

Personally, I have enjoyed the Catechism of the Catholic Church much more than Rome Sweet Home.

Kind of comparing apples to oranges there aint it?  Rome sweet home is a story about his conversion process, it was never meant to be an apologetics or doctrinal dissertation.  It's very helpful in showing the emotional, human side of the often painful conversion process, the negative reactions that you can recieve from those close to you (even your spouse).

s0uljah : Wouldn't you know... that it would be you.

I actually ordered this book. A week ago I could not wait to read it. Today is the day that I was to pick it up. But the last couple of days I have been thinking that I should just forget it. :(

I have read many of the threads that you have been on. I have seen the anger that is in you. I have not seen the joy and peace that comes from knowing God in your words. I do not wish to have my Faith changed into a Faith that works to destroy the Faith of others. I have already been there... done that. I do not want to pick a new side to do battle on. I have no desire to fight.

I like where my walk has taken me now.

It is my opinion, that we should understand, that even though our relationships with our Father and Mother may differ... we all, as Christian, are children of God. We should pull together and build each other up. Speak words of encouragement and enlightenment with LOVE.

So even though, I again feel like a misfit. I decided to remain on my own with my prayers, my Bible, and my relationship to God.

But here you are... and here is that book! Is it merely a coincidence?

I guess it will not hurt to read it. :)

Oh, Stormy! That sounds really sad. Souljah is going through something I went through when you want to tell everybody about what you can see and nobody wants to listen. Some people get frustrated, some people get angry, some people cry and then, it tapers off, the same way depair does, and your love for those people grows, and the sorrow grows with it.

Thanx, Luv

To Stormy:

Go pick up your book and read it.

Don't let any person on this world keep you from learning, Hon. It's a BOOK. It doesn't have the power to change you into something you don't want to be. It's information, that's all.

Peace be with you,
~VOW

To Stormy

I have been Catholic for 20 years now. It has been a joy-filled but also a challenging journey. We all go through times when we question or doubt, become angry or rejoice. It isn't easy being Christian, or any other religion. It requires a commitment and the courage to realize that you will sometimes be confronted for what you believe. If sometimes people sound defensive or angry, I think it is understandable

Our church is going through very rough times right now. It is sometimes difficult not to become angry with the attacks that we see, even if some of the criticism is warranted.

It has been so heart-warming to watch your journey. I wish you much joy and you are in my prayers.

Souljah-

I have never noticed any anger like Stormy saw. I do see a hunger for the truth and an urgency to share what has been revealed to you. Keep the faith!

Stormy-

You are right. We as Christians should concentrate on our similarities more than our differences. We all should meet at the Cross of Jesus.

Jesus said, "I give my peace to you. My peace I give you." Let us all rest in His peace.

In Christ, Patrick

Hey dont take this wrong but I like the name I can eat 50 eggs, where did you come up with that one. I miss omelets. Im horribly allergic to eggs..;)

Ive read The Lamb's Supper, I liked parts about CHristians being joined together etc...but the rest I didnt agree with. I dont believe in the Eucharist and other fine points.

I have to say my theology and Scott Hahns dont mix because I am not an amillenialist but a pre-tribber.

Wasnt he a Presbyterian before converting? Im curious.
