Romans 2 (CLV)
1 Wherefore, defenseless are you, O man! everyone who is judging, for in what you are judging another, you are condemning yourself, for you who are judging are committing the same things." 2 Now we are aware that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who are committing such things.

We covered the truth in Chapter 1

What is the truth again?

(CLV) Ps 119:142
Your righteousness is eonian righteousness, And Your law is truth.

3 Yet are you reckoning on this, O man, who art judging those committing such things, and art doing the same, that you will be escaping the judgment of God? 4 Or are you despising

In rebellion?

the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience,

Grace?

being ignorant that the kindness of God is leading you to repentance?

Repentance of what? Sin?

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

5 Yet, in accord with your hardness and unrepentant heart you are hoarding for yourself indignation in the day of indignation and revelation of the just judgment of God, 6 Who will be paying each one in accord with his acts: 7 to those, indeed, who by endurance in good acts are seeking glory and honor and incorruption, life eonian;" 8 yet to those of faction and stubborn, indeed, as to the truth, yet persuaded to injustice, indignation and fury,

What's the truth again?

(CLV) Ps 119:142
Your righteousness is eonian righteousness, And Your law is truth.

9 affliction and distress, on every human soul which is effecting evil, both of the Jew first and of the Greek, 10 yet glory and honor and peace to every worker of good, both to the Jew first, and to the Greek." 11 For there is no partiality with God,

(CLV) Ex 12:49
One law shall there be for both the native and for the sojourner sojourning in your midst.

12 for whoever sinned without the law, without law also shall perish, and whoever sinned in law, through law will be judged
."

What is sin again?

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Well I would certainly rather be judged through the law, than to face certain death.

13 For not the listeners to law are just with God, but the doers of law shall be justified."

What's this? Just hearing the law doesn't justify me? YHWH is actually asking that I respond to his commands?

So even though we are saved by grace; it's the doers of the law that will be righteous, and justified before YHWH?
Not because works will save them; nor even because they have kept the law perfectly; but because they believe that YHWH's word is truth; thus they obey his law out of love for him and his truth?

14 For whenever they of the nations that have no law, by nature may be doing that which the law demands,

The law demands? Even after Yahshua has ascended? Interesting!

these, having no law, are a law to themselves, 15 who are displaying the action of the law written in their hearts,

There are actions involved with the law?

(CLV) Ro 2:13
For not the listeners to law are just with God, but the doers of law shall be justified.

their conscience testifying together and their reckonings between one another, accusing or defending them, 16 in the day when God will be judging the hidden things of humanity, according to my evangel, through Jesus Christ."

Wow! So even those who haven't read the Torah, have the law written on their hearts? Now it makes sense. YHWH is just. He won't give a death sentence to someone who never had access to a copy of the Torah. He gives the death sentence to those who, even though the law is written on their very hearts, they reject it, and say that it doesn't apply to them. Glory to YHWH!

17 Lo! you are being denominated a Jew, and are resting on law, and are boasting in God, 18 and know the will, and are testing what things are of consequence, being instructed out of the law." 19 Besides, you have confidence in yourself to be a guide of the blind, a light of those in darkness, 20 a discipliner of the imprudent, a teacher of minors, having the form of knowledge and the truth in the law."

Obviously Paul isn't preaching lawlessness here.

21 You, then, who are teaching another, you are not teaching yourself! who are heralding not to be stealing, you are stealing!" 22 who are saying not to be committing adultery, you are committing adultery! who are abominating idols, you are despoiling the sanctuary!" 23 who are boasting in a law, through the transgression of the law you are dishonoring God!"

It doesn't seem that Paul is saying that the law is abolished here. I mean unless in some twisted way one is saying that it's OK to steal and commit adultery, thereby not not dishonoring YHWH, and despoiling his sanctuary.

24 For because of you the name of God is being blasphemed among the nations, according as it is written." 25 For circumcision, indeed, is benefiting if you should be putting law into practice, yet if you should be a transgressor of law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision."

It doesn't seem like Paul is abolishing the law here.

26 If the Uncircumcision, then, should be maintaining the just requirements of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be reckoned for circumcision? 27 And the Uncircumcision who, by nature, are discharging the law's demands, shall be judging you, who through letter and circumcision, are a transgressor of law." 28 For not that which is apparent is the Jew, nor yet that which is apparent in flesh is circumcision;" 29 but that which is hidden is the Jew, and circumcision is of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, whose applause is not of men, but of God."

Much like baptism, outward circumcision is an outward sign of what has already happened inside. Outward circumcision was never intended to take the place of spiritual circumcision.

(CLV) Dt 10:16
Hence you will circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and you should not longer stiffen your neck.

What this verse is saying is to submit to YHWH's Torah. Once one has submitted in spirit; in obedience he will want to show the outward sign to the glory of YHWH.

(CLV) Gn 17:13
He shall be circumcised, yea circumcised, the manservant born in your household or acquired with your money. Thus will My covenant be marked in your flesh as an eonian covenant.

So then when one has the Torah; yet he is not obedient to it; and claims to be a child of YHWH; he blasphemes the name of YHWH. The non believers see this.

You're welcome, and done.

This is part two of a series I'm putting together on Romans. After that, I plan to create a series on each of Paul's letters.
