  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a question regarding these verses
they mention nothing about us being able to separate ourselves from the love of God.
perhaps I just need a bit of reassurance that even my own self cannot separate me from the love of God, that His love is greater than that too..
would be interested in what are people's thoughts on these verses regarding that?
many thanks

Romans 8

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

36 As it is written:

For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is true, but often hard to believe.Through all the tuff ugly stuff that hit him through the externals (your verses),he still knew that God was still loving him.

But dont forget this too.In that same book of Romans,in chapter 7 Paul saw all his own PERSONAL UGLINESS too.7:24,he said most wretched. We all carry a wretched part, and God still loves us anyway.

He is a treasure in an earthen vessel. We are funky vessels with a big God in us!:)

Paul is reiterating the unsavory aspects of following God - we will be hated. We will be tortured and scorned. But Paul also says that God is faithful regardless of how we might personally feel about ourselves.
