Hello, I'm confused about something...

Consider this:

For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6: 23)

Does this mean that if you don't go to Heaven for "eternal life" with Jesus then instead you get "death" - as opposed to going to Hell?

To me this sounds like the alternative to going to Heaven is not Hell, but is in fact perpetual oblivion?

What do people think?

Death is separation from G-d/Heaven, or basically hell. Some may actually want to go there rather than be with G-d.

Hell is the place of death. One in the same.

So, there are only two 'places' that are eternal - but fixed that one cannot go between them - Heaven and Hell.

Keep studying.

Per the end of Rev.20, the abode of hell goes into... the future "lake of fire", along with death and the wicked.

The word 'hell' in the New Testament is a translation to English. There's actually several different Greek words with different meanings translated to 'hell'. So it's important to look those up in a tool like a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. For example, the "hell" in Matthew 10:28 is 'geena' from the idea of the Old Testament 'valley of Hinnom', a perpetual burning garbage pit outside the walls of Jerusalem. It is used as a metaphor for the future destruction of the "lake of fire". In Luke 16, the word "hell" there is haides, which is put for the abode of the wicked across a great fixed gulf in paradise.

When we die, those in Christ Jesus go to the side where Lazarus in Luke 16 went, to the bosom of Abraham on the saved side. Those without Christ go to the other side, to the abode of the wicked called hell, where the rich man went to.

The wages of sin is the " second death". This is the spiritual death encountered on the day of judgment if one has rejected faith in God. We read in Revelation that those in this condition will suffer condemnation. Scripture is not clear on what that looks like. Be blessed.

Something like going to sleep without waking up.

I met a man who used to say he thanked God each morning for waking up.
