When I asked the question though, i didn't use the word respect. I agree with everybody Respect, be it for officer, local officer, soldier or adherent, is something to be earned.

The word I used was 'right'

Having trained and been commissioned as an officer I believe they then have the right to be called by their rank.

My new CO is a young guy fresh from training, who I can give 20 years to (almost).

But he remains my CO, and as such I will call him Captain.

If we met socially, away from Army, then I would feel able to call him Jonathon, but not otherwise.

The only problem I have with this is that I don't believe we should enforce our rights in every situation. I can assure you that if i was an officer then I would want you to call me by my first name not captain. Have you ever considered some might actually prefer to be called by their name? It is fine to stand up for other peoples rights but sometimes we need to ignore our own rights for God.

I think perhaps this further emphasises that there are big differences between the Army in Britain and the Army in Australia.

I'm not saying that is bad or anything, just that the differences exist

Hello all, my name is Howard and I'm a member of the Army in Manchester UK. I used to belong to my Corps in the late 80's and early 90's. Then I left and eventually I married and moved to the U.S..I came back to the Corps last year after my marriage ended. It felt good to be back amongst old friends again, but unfortunately I seem to be not getting along with my officer at the moment. Thanks for reading and looking forward to chatting along the way.

Howard

Hello Howard,

It's good to see another Notherner on the site! I live down near Heathrow, but my parents were officers in the Manchester division (now called the Central North Division), but they are over in Yorkshire now. What corps did you use to go to?

Hey Howard

Great to meet you

I'm just over the Pennines from you in Yorkshire, just outside Selby

Great to have you here with us on Cyber Corps.

Sorry to hear about your problems with your officer. Perhaps it wil sort itself out in time. if not, there are plenty of Corps in Manchester.

Gee thanks

Make me feel old why don't you
If you felt old it's your own fault!!!!

I wasn't actually saying all people who prefer to us rank instead of name are old. Besides when I said that I was more thinking my grandmothers generation not to mention you don't know my age. I could be right behind you or a bit older.

See ya round old fella!
