Dear friends, greetings in the blessed Name of our Lord Jesus :) . This will be more of a hell, fire and brimstone sort of an article and I hope you can put up with it. As Christians we’re often focused on maintaining our personal holiness and righteousness. But it’s equally important for us to condemn sin (NOT the sinner) when we encounter it. In the name of liberty and equality we have Presidents, Supreme Courts and entire governments legalizing behavior (1 Corinthians 6:9, Genesis 19:5, Romans 1:27) that even animals don’t indulge in. There are “churches” that not only condone but actively promote such promiscuity. Many Christians have voted for officials who call themselves Christians but openly endorse (if not participate in) such lasciviousness. Although I haven’t mentioned the word, I’m certain that all of you know what I’m referring to. We Christians will not only be judged by God Almighty for what we do, but also for what we don’t do.

Please turn with me to Revelation 2:14-16, 20-23. This is the risen Lord Jesus Christ speaking to the Apostle John who was in exile on the island of Patmos. These verses spoken to the churches in Pergamum and Thyatira are a judgment against the tolerance to sexual promiscuity rampant in our societies today. Notice that the risen Lord of the Universe didn’t accuse the saints in those churches of indulging in such behavior but for condoning it. The Apostle Paul faced a similar situation in the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 5) where he had to rebuke them for their carnality. We can trace the origins of such perversity back in history to Genesis 19:1-29. Here we see how God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for the perversion mentioned in Genesis 19:5 and which is being blessed by democracies all across the world (would you believe me if I were to tell you that even India is considering legalizing such perversity?). Unfortunately the narrative doesn’t end there and in Genesis 19:30-38 we witness Lot’s daughters committing obscenity and giving birth to offspring who fathered the Moabites and Ammonites, both races which God commanded the Hebrews to destroy (2 Samuel 8:2, 1 Chronicles 19).

The Lord Jesus had indeed done away with most of the archaic laws of the Old Testament (Colossians 2:14). However, a Holy God still demands absolute moral rectitude from us (1 Peter 1:13-16). I’m quite certain that all of us have no problem in maintaining our personal holiness as commanded by the Apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 6:15-20). The only trouble is that sometimes we may condone such acts in others. Let me give you an example from my experience. When I was doing my PhD at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, I was also working in the Kroger Deli (to pay my way through school). There were some of co-workers who were of the disposition mentioned in Genesis 19:5. I was obviously friendly with them as the Lord hates the sin but loves the sinner (John 8:1-11), but I was at a point where I was about to rationalize their behavior. But then the Holy Spirit firmly put the pressure on me with His heavy hand and I had to choose between condoning their action and upholding God’s holiness. So when the opportunity arose and they asked me what I thought of their life style, I politely told them that as a Christian I believed that it was sinful and that they would face God’s judgment (mind you saints, I didn’t attack them verbally or physically, nor did I hate them). Would you believe if I told you that they respected my point of view and were even friendlier after that?

The straight and narrow road leading to eternal life through the small gate (Matthew 7:13-14) is as much about our obedience to the risen Lord in our personal holiness as it is about not condoning sin in others. But please don’t rush to become judgmental or critical without sensitivity (Matthew 7:1-5). Instead, let the Holy Spirit provide you the right opportunity to witness to such people and correct them. When such people see your love and friendliness they’ll seek your counsel without you having to brow-beat them. However, saints who vote for politicians and officials who openly espouse such immorality and frame such policies are as much in danger of damnation as those that commit such deeds. God is a Holy One saints, and let’s not miss out on our prize in heaven by refusing to be strong enough to oppose such sin (and NOT the sinner). Amen. This is a very touchy and sensitive topic friends, so please feel free to share your thoughts.

Saints, my intention in this writing was only to illustrate some concepts and not incriminate anybody in anyway. I apologize if some or all of this content offended you in anyway, as my intention was quite the opposite

Dear friends, I’m quite certain that all of you are sanctified, Holy Ghost baptized saints. Should there be any amongst you that don’t know the Lord yet, I pray that the Lord of the Universe will set you free from sin and disobedience into His glorious light and freedom. Amen.

PS: Thanks for taking the time to read my scribble saints. If you find a lot of similarities between this writing and those of Rev. Oswald Chambers, that’s because the late Rev. Chambers is my mentor. Dear friends, please forgive me if I don’t respond to your mails and debates. I’m a full time college professor and haven’t the time to debate (that and I’m not very good at it.) “……without holiness no one shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14)”. Amen.
