Lemmy's death had the bigger emotional impact on me, but WOW, I was completely blindsided by Bowie's passing. I don't consider myself a huge David Bowie fan, but I'm practically in a state of disbelief. I had no idea he was even ill.

The only albums of his I ever listened to were the ones with Brian Eno ('Low', '"Heroes"' and 'Lodger'), all of which I found utterly brilliant. Looks like I'll have to make the effort to finish what I started.

Man...2016 has made me uncomfortably aware of my own mortality. :/

I loved this man, he was so talented and "Let's dance" is one of the best songs of the History of music.. RIP, what a shock!

It's a tough choice, but I'd go for Life On Mars as my favourite Bowie song. The thing about him is that his output is so diverse that everybody should be able to find at least one of his songs that they like.

I'm pretty sure Keef is functionally immortal, composed as he is of leather and opiates.

Or there's the alternative theory that he actually died a long time ago, but all the stuff he's taken over the years has prevented his body from telling his brain that.

To be fair, I think Keith Richards stopped doing hard drugs decades ago. Conversely, Lemmy smoked and drank heavily since childhood and kept doing amphetamines well into his 60s; he only started hitting minor health speedbumps about two years ago and died very quickly without any prolonged suffering, only 17 days after finishing a tour of Europe. It's curious, at least biologically, how some people are just virtually indestructible.

I miss him. I had my music on shuffle during my run this morning and burst into a smile when Let's Dance began to play. It's been the soundtrack to this day.

I was born at the end of the 90s but was raised on David Bowie's music because it was a favorite of my dad's when he was coming of age. His songs are what I think of when remembering my childhood. So many happy memories. We went to several of his concerts, and had all of his albums. We loved him so much we named my beautiful dog Bowie. Sadly, he died of cancer, too, a couple of years ago. Our new Golden Retriever, Clementine (named for a song by The Decemberists) is actually from the same family so in a way it feels like we still have a part of him. And of course we all still have David Bowie's musical gems.

Friends of the family promised us kittens for Christmas, and we took them home shortly after David Bowie's passing. We named them Ziggy, Starman, and Hero (Heroes is my favorite of his songs). This was taken on their flight home:

I didn't see this before. You're welcome. :) Yes! I love that movie. The book was better but the movie was still really great. I think that was the 1st time I ever heard a David Bowie song. I've been listening to his new album on spotify. It's great.
