  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Who has heard of these bands? They are brilliant. Don't know Bright Eyes that well at the moment but I saw them live with Rilo Kiley at a gig 2 weeks ago and both were brilliant especially Rilo Kiley!

Anyone seen them live or heard of them or like them? etc :)

I haven't heard too much Rilo Kiley, but I like Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst is a prodigy and very talented for his age, but I have to listen to him in moderation. There's only so much whining about depression and alcohol I can take.

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, his new album is terrific. Digital Ash left a little to be desired, but it still somewhat decent.

The new Copeland album is good. I got a promo copy to review a little while ago from one of the websites I write for and I am still enjoying it through all the repeated listens.

You should definitely check out Bright Eyes, but be warned: Conor Oberst doesn't have Aaron's (copeland) sweeping melodic vocals.

Bright Eyes has moments of brilliance, and moments of ineptitude. Conor is way too melodramatic if you ask me, and doesn't know when to use it and when to turn it off. This seems to me to lead to some moments of really, really moving stuff ("False Advertising" being the best example) and moments that seem a little "put on," for lack of a better term. The big crescendoes and his voice cracking on the high screams is a nice thing for a song or two, but when he uses it on practically every song, it loses any effect it might have had, and starts to sound a little forced. The new albums are just OK, with the folk one being much, much better, but ultimately neither is much of a step past "Lifted."

I don't know any of Rilo Kiley's stuff.

no, there's a band called copeland. you could go to purevolume.com & check them out. they play really nice music. (the lead singer of copeland just happens to be named aaron.)

as far as bright eyes, not to be cliche, but i also really like the song "the calendar hung itself."

I freakin HATE Bright Eyes with a passion. I can't think of any other band off hand that I hate with the same kind of fervor as Bright Eyes.

That said, I know good music when I hear it and "I'm Wide Awake it's Morning" is an outstanding album. I bought it becaues I love Emmylou Harris... but the rest of the songs are pretty solid, too.
