Inspired by Edwin Arlington Robinson's 'Richard Cory' - "Richer Glory"
There really was no one that knew what to think.
They said he had probably gone to the East,
or had gone to the West (to socially drink)
but everyone knew he wasn't deceased.
At least, they said he lingered in spirit.
For nothing had changed, -he still was the gossip.
The difference was he wasn't there to hear it,
though his whereabouts were still just a toss up.
Finally they raided the posh fancy places,
the country club playground, the hole in the wall.
And after they had covered all of the bases
-they went home, so they could tell of it all.
They spoke of the tips & leads they checked on.
But, their efforts were hollow so chances were slim
of solving the mystery of where he had gone.
(though they did find a body, it couldn't be him)
