We own a Nintendo 64 system and a Nintendo Gamecube system; I guess both would be considered retro/vintage now. We still have games that we played when we were children, and every now and then we give them a spin again. Our cartridges are more than 20 years old apiece.

Two games we own that I love very much are Super Mario 64 and Kirby and the Crystal Shards for the Nintendo 64.

The Super Mario 64 cartridge we own is the same one we bought in 1995 when the game was first released. That would be about, 20 years ago now since it is 2015 right now. Our copy of the game is 20 years old.

No, we are not looking to sell any of our equipment, it has too much memories and sentimental value to it.

Does anyone else do retro gaming?

Yeah, love it. I find I'm getting the most satisfaction out of Retro games at the moment. Been playing Maze Song SNES and Demon Crest. The really cool thing about playing an old game is that when you play it after such a long time, it's almost like playing a brand new game. Demon Crest is even better than I remember.

My favorite retro game is probably Donkey Kong Country 2, just can't get enough of it. Think I've played it like a zillion times.

I pretty much only do retro gaming these days. I don't play modern games. They just don't have the charm older ones do. A lot of it just feels the same. More rehashed series. A lot of it just feels like a time sink.

Then again, I'm a lot older. New games don't have the sentimental value that older ones do.

I saw a playthrough of Demon's Crest on YouTube. It looks quite intriguing--I like the music. It looks like a nice precursor to the Metroidvania formula. I plan to check it out someday.

Yeah I have to agree. I think there was a lot more passion and variety back then. Nowadays they just want to play it safe, Assassins creed 13 or Call of Duty 14. The newer games might be longer but after the first few hours the padding sets in and the fun factor goes down. Farcry 4 was one of the worst for that. It is an interesting game and I can see why people like it but the padding, oh my gosh the padding. I hardly finish games these days and I hate Skinner Box gameplay padding. It seems like a lot of time the gameplay takes a backseat to the graphics and story.

Yeah definitely check out Demon Crest, when you can? Fun game.

I collect for the PS1, PS2, Original Xbox, XBOX 360, N64 and Gamecube. I would say I have around 500 games in all. I buy lots off EBAY and get some pretty great deals. It's nostalgic for me, especially the PS2 as my love for gaming intensified when it came out. I remember GTA III being released and totally blowing me away. The ones before that only had the top-down 2D view, so it was pretty mind blowing to see an open 3D world.

Out of all the systems I have, I probably play the Gamecube the most. It just has such fantastic games: Zelda (Twilight Princess & Wind Waker), Super Monkey Ball, Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, SSX3, etc.
But the N64 will always be the best and have a special place in my heart. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is one of my all time favorites. And, of course, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, that freaking Spider-Man game. So many wonderful memories.
I also have a Play Station 2 with some goodies. Final Fantasy VIII (PS1 game), Final Fantasy X, Dark Cloud, Okage, Jak and Daxter, Kingdom Hearts.
And the PS3 as well but that's not retro :p

I realize some of these are probably considered newer compared to NES/SNES/Atari games but I'm just going by what I played as a kid (and still play XD )

That is awesome! I really like both of those systems; gamecube is one of my favorite systems.

I love old games and systems. I still have my original NES from 1990, as well as a Nintendo 64, which is my favorite console. We also had an Intelevision when I was younger and I loved that too.

Modern games are incredible but there's also something special about the old ones. They were unique and unforgiving, meaning you had to get better and persevere if you wanted to win. Gamers today have been spoiled by auto saves, checkpoints and cloud storage. When I was a kid you had to go all out!

I would say about half of my gaming is retro gaming. Going back to play Dreamcast titles like shenmue and skies of arcadia or the crazy amount of great rpgs and platformers on the ps1 gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I guess playing these games from my childhood remind me of simpler times.

Not quite "retro," but one of the advantages I find to PC gaming is that excellent games that are 5-10 games old can often be had for less than $10. If you can delay gratification, you can save a ton of money over the long term. Right now I'm working through Grim Fandango, an older game but with excellent story-telling.
