servant4ever said:Well, the first disciples didn't get their MDiv (Masters of Divinity) from any seminary... They were just ordinary people. Yes, people argue that Jesus taught them, but they didn't have classes on sermon preparation or preaching skills...
I hope this helps a little,

Yes, Carine as someone who has been to Bible School I know not all good bible teachers need attend college but the individual who teaches God's Word needs to do so with the combination of personal study and the power of the Holy Spirit.
While I agree that it is important for all Pastors to be able to communicate God's Word effectively, it is true to recognise that not every pastor is gifted with all gifts. That is surely why the non-denominational churches came into being, because it was recognised one man could not function effectively doing everything and this is why team ministry operates within so many of the newer churches. Your assistant Pastor may be the first to admit he is not gifted in bible teaching But he may be gifted in prayer and relating to others on a one to one basis.

When did you find that out(about Greg Boyd)?servant4ever said:But, also some people who have a Dr. of Ministry degree (or whatever, they have a Dr. in front of their name) have been leaders of great heresies. For example, Greg Boyd, whom has a Doctorate, is considered a heretic because he is a leader of Open Theism... I think if the Spirit is with them, they can do great preaching, but if they don't, they won't be doing the best job for the Lord.

Agreed... but don't you think that in order to disciple others, it should be based on the WORD and not just experience? I feel often that the messages are based more on what to do rather than what Jesus has done for us. Honestly, I have watched a few messages on a LDS channel and I almost find no difference in the message!... and that saddens me.
People consider him to be a heretic because of the Open Theism stance. I do not agree with that, but I was just saying him as an example. Also, his website (www.gregboyd.org) mentions that he has a doctorate in philosophy.Breetai said:When did you find that out(about Greg Boyd)?
I was really asking you that question because I thought that you had considered him to be correct before.servant4ever said:People consider him to be a heretic because of the Open Theism stance.
