Do you believe someone can be raped and not remember it?

I had a series of flashbacks last year in Feb. of being r*ped by my abusive ex boyfriend, but they are so jumbled and such I can barely piece together it all.

WARNING TRIGGER following:

I recall being pushed down and then it goes to me crying with him on top of me laughing hysterically like he always did when he caused me pain. Its so real, I swear I can remember how it felt to have my wrists be held down. But then again, I had had sex with him before willingly...so how can I be sure?

I seriously have major trouble remembering my junior year of high school due to smoking pot so much then.

I don't wanna say I was raped, but how can I know for sure when I feel like I might have been? Should I just forget about it?

That's a hard one. You may have been drugged, your flashbacks may just be a jumble of memories from several experiences, or it may have happened. Possibly only a highly skilled and experienced analyst could help you.

Some memories can be repressed, other times we remember things that didn't happen as a result of mixed up memories sort of jumbling together. It doesn't mean you didn't experience something wrong, nor does it invalidate any feelings of being violated.

I didnt remember being raped THE NEXT DAY...So yess. its very possible hun...

I just started to remember being raped just recently.. It was when I was a child. It is very possible to forget being raped.

You know what? I'm not so sure it's that we FORGET as it is that we choose not to be able to remember...right now. When something really traumatic like that happens, and we're still in a somewhat unsafe surrounding, sometimes to help us cope with it we just choose not to remember...right now.

GodSavedJen, since we're not professionals it's really impossible for us to say if what you're remembering is a memory or a fear or what--but I do know that you were feeling abused, afraid, and violated. And for THAT I'm so sorry.
