  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Repentance.

GR, when you sin, you confess and you repent the sin.

Now repentance basically means that I will not do it again. Repentance isn't remorse! Many feel remorse when they do something that is classed as sin, being remorseful doesn't really mean that you won't do it again. It doesn't take long for that person to do it again.

When you confess and repent you speak the prayer out aloud, and not in your mind. And always speak from your heart so that you mean it.

Satan is no fool, and if he knows that you weren't serious he will hit you with a ton of bricks.

Confession and repentance needs to be worked through the heart, and not the mind, because the mind is Satan's battleground.

It's no use confessing and repenting if you don't mean it.

elijah2 got it right when he said you must mean it.

the book of hebrews says (paraphrased) that if you continue to deliberately sin, no blood for sacrificial atonement remains. - early jews taught that intentional sin was not even covered in the old testament sacrifice.

the early rabbi's and pharisees taught that if you knew you would die in 28 days, wouldn't you spent the 27th day repenting of your wrongs in a serious way. So then they said, if you do not know if you'll be here tomorrow get your repenting done today and lead a life that's holy.

Is repentance just a one-time thing or do you do it every day?
repentance is a lifestyle. you have to live a lifestyle of repentance. the moment you stop repenting of sin is the moment you stop being a Christian. that's what sets the difference between a saint and a sinner. a sinner is one who sins without making any effort to change his ways. a saint is one who acknowledges their sin before God, and submits to the Holy Spirit as He walks them throught the process of change. we have to keep going back to God until He breaks that sin off of our lives. if we truly mean it, then after so long we'll eventually get tired of repenting of the same things over and over again, and we'll stop because we know that it breaks God's heart every time we send Him back to the cross for the same sins.

Be blessed Brother!

Amen! I repent so many times a day it's a testament to God's love that He doesn't tire of me. I've fallen so hard on the path that I've left skid-marks. I just keep repenting and begging God to help me stop. I'm new but I'm getting better. It's not easy but worth every thing. After all, if All Mighty God won't give up on me why should I. He knows me better than I know myself and before I knew myself. He knows something(s) I don't. If He knows I can make it I must be able to make it. Keep praying, keep reading His word, go to church and keep on keeping on. As the friend who led me to Christ is so fond of saying "We aint perfect, just forgiven!" Amazing Grace indeed.
Good luck and God bless.
