• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Bible says to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. My question is how do you actually put that into practice? My walk is growing ever closer to our Lord. Sadly, satan's attacks are growing just as strong.
For every positive thought, three negative follow. Not literally, but you get the idea.

faithnprayer! tiz wonderful to hear that you are growing ever closer to your Lord! :D :hug: The closer you draw to Jesus, the deeper He goes into your heart revealing what is there. Sometimes, negative thoughts could signify an emotional wound that needs healing and or indicate strongholds, such as fear, doubt, worry, even erroneous mindsets, etc that require ousting. One's mind is certainly the spiritual battle ground, so the more filled with God's renewing Word of Truth, the more Divine Power to wage effective warfare against negative thoughts! :thumbsup: Our Lord's mighty Presence, the Power of His precious shed Blood, prayer, and praising Him would all work wonders in renewing one's mind! :amen:

Renewing your mind is learning to have your thoughts and values framed by Christian concepts. This is a lifelong process. We try to understand and then apply biblical understanding to our own lives, our relationship with God, our careers, our marriage and family, our relationships with people, our struggles, our civic responsibiities, our christian community and service and so on.

Not all neagative thoughts come from Satan either. We can generate quite a few of them for a variety of reasons.

entails totally emersing yourself in God's presence, God's word, staying in constant communication with Him and the Son; asking daily for the infilling of the Holy Spirit to empower you to be renewed mentally and spiritually. And by keeping yourself surrounded as much as possible with people who are living a whole life faith and not mediocre Christians.

That's my 2 cents.

I don't know if Satan's attacks are growing stronger or more frequent, or if because of your growth in your walk, you are just more aware, more conscious of them.
If you want to eliminate those negative thoughts, you will need to rebuke your flesh or carnality, and replace it with the constant influence of the Holy Spirit. That is called spiritual growth. If this is a direction you would like to take, I can help you.

I would recommend getting and reading a book called "You Are What You Think" by David Stoop, Ph.D. It is an awesome book that I am reading about controling how you think and managing your thoughts. It has really been helpful.

I would also just say that loooking to God, and thinking on His Words.

Good posts. Faith, may I say what you probably already know (and someone else said): The spiritual fight is fought in the mind and amid your emotions; your soul. You're drawing closer to the Lord, increasing in fellowship with Him. Well... this is going to allow God to use you more to further His kingdom, through ministrering to others, sharing of his Love and the knowledge of His son.

This is the very thing that Satan stands against. He tries to steal, kill, and destroy, especially those things that glorify God, because Satan desires glory for himself.

You said you're drawing closer to God, good. As you draw closer, he will begin to sanctify you more. Just realize something I've come to in my relatively short time walking with the Lord: In his sanctification of you, he will deal with one area of your life at a time. You'll still have conviction of the Spirit, and he will steal deal with you on things; but idols in your life, anything that you haven't given over to His lordship, he will deal with those areas one at a time, and then move on to the next, and the next.

So take heart sis. As long as your conscious that these thoughts you're having are negative, and opposed to the Lord, give them to him. Ask him to reveal the source, and to deal with the source whatever it may be. In the end, His grace is sufficient, and His word is sufficient. You're on His way. God Bless, faith. :)

thats an amazingly simple revelation. I guess I hadn't considered the obvious..... as we draw nearer to God then we may just be more aware of satan's attacks. I am interested in how I might eliminate negative thoughts and replace them with the constant influence of the Holy Spirit. Any suggestions or advice is much welcomed.

Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement. I am finding comfort in the realization that my circumstances do not determine my identity.
Giving up and laying it all down at the foot of the cross has been, and at times continues to be , a struggle. I realize finally..... God has it worked out and if I abide in Him... He will make His way clear to me.
