What's strange is Dove is owned by the same company that owns Axe. You know the product with all the commercials about how thin, sexy , perfect body, hair, and faced women flock blindly to men who use Axe body spray ready to have sex with them at a moment's notice. There's some irony in there somewhere. Basically, you are only beautiful and desirable to yourself while Dove is trying to sell you their crap.

I think it would be about the same.
It seems to be a human thing rather than a gender thing; to hold onto such negativity about themselves.

I know you mean well in sharing that video. And I am glad you did.

But I did not get the message that we are all beautiful.

I got the message that girls who look like the picture on the left are ugly. And girls who look like the picture on the right are beautiful. They make that clear.

The message of comparison and lack of choice about what one finds beautiful is what leads to the very problem of not seeing one's own beauty that they were claiming to help.

Both pictures were beautiful representations of beautiful girls. Had they actually said that, they would not be able to continue sending the message that one needs beauty products to improve oneself. One does not need to improve what one finds beautiful. If I look in the mirror and believe I am beautiful, then Dove has to then send the message that I am not. Which is what that video actually did while pretending to say we are all beautiful.

It is like going to a psychologist who creates problems in his clients lives so that they have something to work on. One can only guess at motive. But the message is still not healthy.

So, while I agree all are beautiful. It is clear that the people in the video and Dove do not.

Interesting read on it.

I really felt it was more about how out of proportion we can think things to be.
It is easy to focus on something so much that is all we can see and it takes something eye opening to realize just how small it really is.

I've had two moments like the part where the one woman was standing there staring at the images of herself.
Once when stress was literally killing me - a friend gave me a photo of myself and I did not even know who it was. I couldn't believe it was me.
The second time about 6 months after that when I had been working on getting rid of my stress and choosing to be happy..
I had the image of the stressed and sick me in my head and caught a glimpse of someone in a display and after turning to see the beautiful woman who had to be right behind me and finding no-one I realized that it was in fact me.

It's a truly amazing thing to see past the images you have in your own mind.

What if I saw myself not knowing it was me and saw ugly?

What if in another version film Dove did not show, the girl's picture of how she saw herself was "more beautiful" than the one closer to herself? Then imagine everyone cutting down her actual likeness.

I think you are right. We are all beautiful. Very beautiful. Very equally beautiful.

You might watch the video again, but this time pretend they are talking about two portraits of two actual girls. Would that match your thread title?

Dove says: If you look old, round face, crows feet, then you are ugly.

Dove says: If you are younger, thinner, blue eyes, then you are beautiful.

Dove finally says: You beauty affects everything: your life, job, and how you treat your children.

Really Dove? Amazing claims coming from a beauty company.
