Remember the sacrifice

On todays date in 1944 at Normandy, France, over 300,000 allied soldiers and sailors from the 12 countries participated in the in the largest amphibious landing ever. Over 4,000 allied personnel and over 1000 axis soldiers did not survive the day.

We should not forget their sacrifices no matter the country for which they fought.

What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness G-d has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbours, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world! ~ Robert E. Lee

My grandfather was at Normandy Beach, and while he thankfully survived, I'm going to appreciate his sacrifice a lot more than the Axis'...
