  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If some one is going around the 3rd or 4th time , there is a need to
deal with the " root " of the failure of the first 3 .... which unresolved
will be the death of the 3rd , 4th , 5th ....

Unresolved hurt , offense , pride , selfishness ....
Abuse , intolerance , perspective
Perception of roles of man or wife
Immaturity in selecting a prospective spouse
Making the same decision , same personality type , " right decision for wrong reason or wrong decision for right reason "

Joyce Meyers , Gary Smaley both have a Marriage seminar ...
there is a couple on TBN recently that have a marriage seminar ...
TD Jakes does seminars every year , book " woman ,thou art loosed "

I hear statistics show more christians are getting divorced than non these days.

I'd be surprised if Christians weren't getting married more as well. The rest of society seems to be entering into live-in situations and common law marriages more and more these days.

If that is indeed true, then even if christians have a lower rate of divorce we'd appear to have a higher rate. Common law marriages don't have an official "divorce" rate.

Marissa, there's some element of truth to your comment.

In the U.S. the highest divorce rates are in Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama, Tennessee, and other Bible Belt states. This is often because societal pressure there results in young folks with normal lusts seeking to marry at young ages for the opportunity to have (moral, in their view) sex. Families and church communities are often most tolerant when these marriages break up and regard them much as Catholics do when they annul marriages--that in their view, it wasn't a real marriage anyway, though it was when they were in it so the sex in it was moral at the time, essentially allowing them to have their cake and eat it too (and that maxim kind of summarizes the attitudes of fundamentalist majorities in those areas about most things anyhow;) )... And they are totally clueless about how, when things like this occur, how ironic and ridiculous it is for them to claim gay marriages will "destroy" marriage. In the areas of the country where gays are most likely to get crucified on barb wire fences, the hets seem to be doing a pretty good job of destroying marriage on their own with no aid whatsoever from San Fran or Provincetown...

Hi there!

As stated, that posting was about the "etiquette" of additional marriages and has nothing to do with Christian thoughts on re-marriage.

Certainly, everyone must agree that any marriages ending in divorce and subsequent re-marriage to others before a conversion to Christianity is all "under the blood", and the slate is wiped clean.

I have heard many people say that they were married to the wrong person, but I have news for you, if you are married, you are married to the right person, and God doesn't intend to change your circumstances by telling you divorce is okay. That's one reason for "grace".
