Hello, I want to relocate, I need a new start, only problem is, there are very few places I really like....I enjoy lush places, with rivers, historical cities, and lots of bikeable streets. I am thinking CO, and ID but they seem to be too much desert for me, and cold. My employer has facilities in the Salem, Medford, Bend, Portland areas...and I might be able to transfer thru them, only problem is I am living in NC right now and I am truly worried about depression. I am no longer on medication, but fight it everyday....Then again if alot of people are fighting it out there, then I will be in the majority instead of the minority here in NC....LOL. Can I get any feedback from my sisters and brothers that live out there, how bad the winters really are? THANKS

The winters are nothing, it didn't even really snow this time around. And if emotional lows are a problem for you, then Portland is pretty close to perfect. If you want mountains, forest, beach, it's all close by. You can pretty much find it all here. I love Portland. Not a place I'd recommend for a vacation, but I'd definitely recommend it as a place to live.

We are in the Medford area, a few weeks in winter are definitely one gray day after another, but seldom snows. And tons of sun in summer. There are definite seasons, which is nice, but it's true, that gray stuff can get to some people sometimes, I happen to enjoy it, so doesn't bother me. God bless in your decision.

Don't know if you've transferred yet, but I live in Portland. Portland seldom has snow, but the winter darkness is the same as I experienced in NY. You can go online and search demographics for different areas and see how much actual daylight different places get.

One thing that might help is replacing your light bulbs with the grow lights that produce IV rays. This helps stimulate the brain into thinking that it's experiencing daylight thus helping seasonal affect issues...

One thing that helps in Portland is that the weather is milder. Getting outdoors is easier for hiking, biking, etc. except for a really cold week or two in the winter. Any more questions - ask away.

Blessings. -PW
