Religious symbols and such in LOST

I like all of the religious symbolism. The only thing I didn't like, as a Catholic, is them putting the heroin in the Blessed Mother statues.

I don't think so, because the producers have said everything has a logical, non-supernatural explanation.

Actually, I suspect its much simpler than that - they are in direct contact with the outside world. Once they collected the names of the flight 815 survivors via Goodwin and Ethan, they sent those names to their `real world' sponsors, who ran a detailed google search on them, possibly tapping into say, the FBI database, credit card scoring/tracking database, ect.

Hmmm...do you count `remote viewing' (which is what seems to be at play with some of the `Walt' stuff) or `precognition' (what Desmond apparently did) as demonic? Note that from time to time, both these paranormal subjects have been the topic of intense, often highly secret scientific investigation.

I don't know about 'demonic' anymore, but for a while, it seemed like the Others had so much information on the Losties that they couldn't have possibly gotten it the conventional way. I mean, for an ordinary person to know as much about Jack as the Others do--without actually having met him--a normal person would have to LIVE on Google! But, as is shown in some more recent episodes, the Others aren't exactly ordinary. For one thing, they're a LOT more annoying than normal people (i.e., Juliet).

Here in the UK we're still awaiting season 3 to start sometime in Novemeber so I take it the dreaded Others have more to say in the upcoming episodes.
As for where they get their information from? Hmmm, that's a ponder to be sure. I still think they have direct contact with the outisde world by some means, I dare say time will tell :o)

I'm not a Catholic, so I'm certain the statues of Mary containing heroin has a different meaning for you than for me. But, it does show quite strongly just how low Eko was going...that he would suggest to his brother, a priest, to use those statues in such a way was such a defilement.

But then things turned around with him.

It's also highly symbolic - many people are looking for peace and happiness and escape in their drug use, such as Charlie seemed to be. Instead of turning to his faith, where he had found meaning before, he turned to drugs. Then "his faith" was full of drugs.

That dossier Juliette had on Jack looked pretty mundane to me.

I mentioned in another thread the Greek mythology that is related to various things Dharma.

- Apollo bars.
- Cadeuceus, Hydra stations.
- Swan was something Zues turned into when he seduced a Greek woman.
- Cerberus is the security system.
