  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did you know that all churches have a Saint's relic embedded into its Altar? I don't believe newly constructed churches have this feature. If you look under the Altar table's coverings, you should see a piece of concrete embedded on the surface. This is where the Holy Relic is contained. A document should be on file indicating who the Saint is.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

There are three degree of relics.

1) An actual part of the Saint (bone chip, lock of hair, etc.)
2) Object actually touched by the Saint
3) Object actually touched by the 1st (2nd, too) degree relic

When I referred to Relic, I meant of the 1st degree. I'll bet St. Lucy's has a 1st degree relic in its Altar, too. Especially if its an older building that hasn't been remodeled to extensively.

Darby, St. Lucy's is over 100 years old. It is a Church of beauty and TRADITION. Alter rails, Communion on the tongue (and I mean ALL receive the Host on the tongue), no laymen ministers, No singing, womens heads are covered. It is truly a beautiful Church. They also have the 24 hour adoration.

That's my kind of church! I miss the Communion Rail. Growing up (and I'm pretty young for a "traditionalist Catholic" at 31), I received Communion on the tongue, on my knees, at the rail. Head covering, no singing, and latin are a little too old school for me, but acceptable. You use english at St. Lucy's don't you? We have a Latin Mass once a week here.

It is a very beautiful church. It is more of a Roman architecture than Gothic. Heck, as an altarboy, it was cassocks and surpluses instead of hooded albs. I almost fainted one hot summer Mass. That's a lot of clothing with no air conditioning!

Anyway, check it out. I'll bet there is a 1st degree relic in the Altar table. Ask your Priest.

It is my understanding the all altars contain a relic. It dates to the practice of saying mass in the catacoms in fear of the roman soldiers
