Relations between Orthodox and Muslims

I was just curious, in areas were Orthodox and Muslims "collide" (Russia and the former Soviet Union, Albania, etc,), how are the relations between these two groups. Do they live in peace or fight in "jihads"?

There are some deep rooted problems between the Russians and the Muslim Chechen rebels. And there is mostly bad blood between the Orthodox in Eastern Europe, and Muslims.

Relations between Fundamentalist Moslems and Orthodox Christians are very bad. Relations between your average Joe Blow Moslem and Orthodox Christians are actually pretty good. There are many Moslems who venerate Orthodox saints because those saints do not withhold their love from those of different faiths and have performed many miracles among them. Saint George for example, has a strong following among Moslems. If you read the life of Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, you will see that many Moslems went to him for healing and none were turned away. In Montenegro, both Christians and Moslems venerate the relics of St. Vasilije of Ostrog and both receive healing in answer to their prayers. It is of note that in the population exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1924, the Moslems refused to allow the Greeks to take with them the relics of Saint Mamas as they considered him their saint too.

Their relations aren't compatible with much of the east either. Look at the problems in the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Pakistan. Fundamentalist Islam is only compatible with Islam. Like prodromos said, it is mainly a problem of fundamentalists though. Joe Muslim is easy to get along with. I had good friends in high school from Iran, Bangladesh & Egypt and they were great guys.

Yeah I agree. We once had a Muslim contracter and he was very kind. Sometimes we would even discuss the differences of our Religions, with no hard feelings.

I have aquaintainces in Beit Jala (Palestine) Who tell me that there are often more Muslims than Christians at most of the weekday Vespers services.
Love or Hate Yassar Arafat, Maria tells me he regularly attends both Nativity and Paschal festivities in Beit Jala and apparently has a genuine respect for the Orthodox Christians in the area.

I was told that she was Melkite. I don't know if she is still a Christian as she could have converted to Islam. There are a lot of muslims who visit and pray in Christian Churches. They are healed through the intercessions of our Orthodox Saints. Many convert to Christianity this way.

Pray for the conversion of muslims.

Melkites are Eastern Catholic in communion with Rome. Their church split from the Antiochian Orthodox Church in 1724.
