I have Soul Journey bookmarked and read it everday. This morning's was particularly powerful and I needed to share it
Refuge in the Rain
It was a bright and breezy day at the beach. Families and friends were gathered together on beach towels, enjoying the good weather. As they were all having fun swimming and tanning, no one noticed the threatening dark clouds far off in the sky. It was only when drops of rain began to fall that everyone started packing their things. As the drizzle turned into a downpour, the crowd ran quickly to a common shelter area, where they found refuge from the rain.
Throughout history, believers in Jesus have found God to be their hiding place. Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch watchmaker, hid Jews in her house during WWII. She was imprisoned by the Nazis and was placed in solitary confinement for 4 months. Her cell was dark, with filthy water on the floor, and she was constantly tortured by the piercing cries of other prisoners.
Corrie told the Lord that she was not strong enough to endure this, and the Lord spoke to her in an unusual way. She saw an ant on the floor that ran straight into a tiny hole in the wall when it felt the water. The Lord told Corrie that He was her hiding place, and she could come running to Him just like the ant ran to the hole.
As we read Psalm 91, we learn that God is our refuge and fortress, just as He was for Corrie. ?If you make the Most High your dwelling?even the Lord, who is my refuge?then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent? (vv.9-10). In Psalm 46:1, the writer said that God is our ?very present help in trouble.? That means He goes with us through our suffering and pain, sustaining us in the midst of it.
We can replace our fear with trust and our pain with comfort, knowing that God is there as we face overwhelming troubles. He is our refuge and our fortress! ?Joanna Lim
bottom line: Stay sheltered by running to God.
