For those currently reformed/Calvinist...

Now that I know what Fundamentalist means...

Would not all reformed/Calvinist be fundamentalist?

If not, why?

Thanks.

Side question:
Am I being a pain yet with all my questions?
I know who I am I just did not know all these terms that define who I am.
In the end all that ultimately matters is that I accepted the Lord as my personal saviour
and I strive to live the best Christian life I can based on prayer, direction from the Holy Spirit and the Bible.

This book, first published in 1923, is a classic treatment of the age old controversy between Orthodox Christianity and Liberalism. Machen contrasts the errors of liberalism with the basic foundational truths of Biblical Christianity such as: Doctrine, God and man, the Bible, Christ, Salvation, and the Church. Machen's book is scriptural, thought-provoking, well-reasoned, and relevent today. Your faith in the Bible and its basic doctrines will be strengthened. It is worth your time to read this important book. This book is in the public domain according to ccel.org

start with this book online.

Hi Caitlin,
Good question - wouldn't it be nice if everyone in a position followed to the biblical conclusions and if all churches believed what they professed?

In this drifting world of ours there are some variants with the language and with how people live.

Someone who is truly reformed in doctrine on the inside will be a fundamentalist in the historic sense of believing the fundamentals.

There are also those who reformed who are fundamentalists in the modern sense of adding additional life rules to scripture (no smoking, no drinking, etc.)

And then you have those churches that were historically reformed who are no longer reformed in doctrine or in practice. These are the churches in response to whom the fundamentals were first expressed. Many of those who are there no longer believe the fundamentals of the faith.

The original definition of fundamentalism was set forth a General Assembly of the old Presbyterian Church USA at the beginning of the 20th Century.
John Gresham Machen, the founder of Westminster Theological Seminary, is the last leader of an old line denomination, [other the the Southern Baptists], who embraced the name fundamentalist.
Conservative Reformed people tend not to embrace the label because it is too inclusive. They are concerned with preaching the whole council of God's Word.
