Reformation Day Poll - please vote!

How will you celebrate Reformation Day this year?

  • Spend an extra 10 minutes in morning prayer thanking God for the Reformation.

  • Attend a worship service to commemorate the occasion.

  • Read the 95 theses.

  • Drink a pint of ale in honour of Martin Luther.

  • Sing the Reformation Polka to your spouse.

  • I prefer to celebrate Hallowe'en instead.

  • I don't believe in celebrating Reformation Day.

  • What's Reformation Day?

  • Watch the "Luther" movie

My church is having a "Fall Festival" (i.e. a way to celebrate Halloween without really looking like it). I'd like to see us do something in remembrance of the Reformation instead.

Hmmm, doesn't that sound familiar?? Our church is having it's "Harvest Party" today. The kids can dress up if they want(no scary costumes, though) and their will be lots of games and candy. I missed last years party.

I have to laugh, because it reminded me of my husbands parents when they were first JW's, because it took a couple of years before they could let go completely of the whole holiday thing.... They'd buy us "Just because" presents, right around christmas, and somehow we'd get another "just because" present right around our birthday...... :D

They got over it though--now we don't even get "just because" presents! ^_^

I am glad though, that the church does the harvest party, because my husband and I had decided that we weren't going to do trick or treating--but my boys get inuindated with the whole idea--so we felt that this was a good compromise. Friday they get to go to "boo at the zoo" at the Columbus Zoo. They get to dress up then too, and get a wee bit of candy.

P.S. I don't think our church celebrates Reformation day simply because we aren't considered Reformed. I have never even heard of it before I came to CF!!!

My church has a bonfire in the evening-it's called Reformation night. But, there is only a short devotion concerning the Reformation-the rest of the night is free. Basically, it's an opportunity to do something besides Halloween. I'd really like to just spend the evening with a bunch of Luther buffs and discuss the Reformation or watch the movie. . .

Erin, that's a great idea, thanks!

I'll be renting Luther and have a family Reformation Day movie night.

MY church is watching the movie Luther. It's going to be spectacular. I wonder if they will have an evening service commemorating it... it's possible, as I have been blessed with a Reformed Baptist church :D. Praise God! Note this though, I will also be having a pint in honor of Mr. Luther and Mr. Calvin, and others, of course :D

I understand perfectly - I take a nap every Saturday afternoon. People know not to call between 2:00 & 3:00, because I'll be sleeping. Can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't appreciate naps more when I was a kid and had to take them.
