Hello Mr. James, and "Texas Baptist with attitude",

I just recently join CF and naturally it didn't take long for me to find this area of the forums.

This thread in particular is of interest because I love reenacting(U.S. Civil War)...and I happen to know a bit about it. I own a (Pietta) 1851 Colt Navy Black Powder Revolver and I can carry it when reenacting because I'm with the artillery. Most black powder revolvers were discarded in the actual Civil War because they took so darn long to reload, and not too many soldiers actually had 'em in the first place. During a battle you might get a chance to fully re-load your revolver once, and you might not have enough time during a battle. Muskets and rifles however, could be reloaded remarkably fast, and often times a group would reload rifles/muskets for one fellow that did the actual shooting. Of course, most reenactments are off from reality, though we do get into it.

But to answer your actual question: Yes I have shot a "reenactment gun" and yes it is fun to reenact with your friends, and you get to be good friends with all your fellow re-enacters after a while. One problem: It is extremely expensive, you can from $500-$800 on a uniform, plus the actual guns, and, just like any shooting sport, ammunition is very costly. Even when shooting with just powder, it can cost you a lot...

If you have the time, money, are located in good location(New Mexico won't allow confederate flags during reenactments anymore) then go for it! If you have any more questions, ask away!

This also counts as my introduction post, so, here we go: I was born in Texas, currently live and attend high school in Arizona, and I attend a Baptist church though I don't agree with a lot of things they have to say...but that's for another thread. You can also find me on PlayDiplomacy.com as willie23(Not my real name or age).

Regards,
Willie Twenty-Three
