  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to write here. I just felt like writing something. Hmmm...how about this...Do you consider your life monotonous or an adventure? Do you think there is such a thing as adventure anymore? Are you easily contained by four walls? Can you see the world with new eyes at will? See random questions can be fun.

Recently, I discovered you can rediscover the world with in four walls. The answer is books.

I wouldn't say my life is monotonous and if I said my life was an adventure, it would be a stretch. I am happy with most of the aspects in my life, but others still need work. I know I need to keep Jesus as my example.

My life certainly isn't monotonous. I'm in the Army right now, and I have been for almost three years. In my three years I've done and seen things that most Americans won't get to as long as they live. Right now I'm in South Korea, a place I never thought I'd get to see, and I've met people from all over the world.

To me, anything you expereince is an adventure - especially meeting different types of people from different places. Just in my section alone, I work with a pot head from Indiana, a 33 year old two time divorcee who dabbles in real estate from Minneasota, a former officer in the Army of Guyana, and 20 year old wannabe thug from New York. I've learned so much just from being around so many different types of people.

After I get out of the Army, my fiancee and I plan on going on a two-month trip and visiting all 48 continental United States, seeing all the famous landmarks we can, and taking our pictures outside (or inside) of all 31 major league baseball stadiums.

Anything can be an adventure though. I try to do at least one new thing each weekend, wether it's going to an area of town I've never been to before, eating at a new resturaunt, or simply meeting a new person. So anyone can have an adventurous life, as long as your idea of adventure isn't limited to extreme past times like mountain climbing or something.:)

When I take a look at my own life, I think it's somewhat monotonous at the moment. But I also see that I'm moving in the direction of something bigger. It's inevitable that my life is going to turn into a full blown adventure. How do I know? Because I'm the kind of person who relentlessly persues dreams until they become reality. My dreams are people, places, changing the world... In the end, it doesn't matter if I succeed or fail. All that matters is that I give it all I got and never take a day for granted. I've spent twenty years prepparing to do what I'm about to do, and I'll spend the rest of my life in pursuit of these things. As for seeing the world with new eyes...that will happen soon enough, but first i have to escape from the valley.

"There and Back Again, a Studen'ts Tail" ;) (ref. The Hobbit)

Do you mean see the world outside of blatant escapism?

I think that dating can often times be an adventure for the more romantic of us. I think that youth retreats and travel outside your zipcode (provided it is not routine) can be adventures.

It depends on how you look at it. Personally, I'm a bit quixotic in this regard. I like to envision giants even if I know full well in my mind that their windmills. I find it helpful to listen to inspiring music like Gladiator and run it in the back of my head while "battleing" on exams.

There is an ongoing spiritual adventure I rage in my head. Donning the "full armor of God" with the Katana of the Spirit (ok, slight liberty there  ) I combat the forces of the enemy head on.

I have had some more tangible adventures in the past, however, like a two week backpacking expedition in the alpine wilderness of northeastern New Mexico at Philmont ranch (now I know what Frodo went through, heh). We also toured Costa Rica for a week, which turned into a bit more of an adventure than we had planned when protesters shut down their one highway. Then there was an interesting adventure as a tourist in Japan for a week, knowing just enough Japanese to get around.

*sigh* I think that adventure is overrated, especially considering the ultimate end to Cervantes' Don Quixote where he finally aims to be a sheep herder. Adventure is not in grandiose things so much as just an open and appreciative mindset about life as an intrinsic adventure. Any 'adventure' which seems to draw ooh's and ahh's is simply an extravagant people-pleaser or braggart's quest. Whereas, if a person launches on an adventure to the next town over to help build a house for a needy family, it is not as easily recognized as such. But I think that adventure is in the way we portray things within ourselves, and eventually that way of thinking about the world comes out in our actions and words.

Embrace the Romantic Adventurer inside yourself! We need more of us! :)
