• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does your church have a recovery ministry?

When I say "Recovery Ministry", I mean it is a dedicated outreach support ministry/program in the church for members and non members who suffer or have suffered with alcoholism and addictions?

If your church does use a program, which one is it? Celebrate Recovery? Some other one? Does your church allow AA/NA to use their facilities and you attend the meetings there?

I purposely made this poll in the spirit of anonymity - your name wont show up when you pick one in the poll. You can post or dont post - just curious how many do have a program here. And how is it?

I myself picked "other" - although I have checked out a few churchesun my area and the need for programs is vast, I dont go go church but wanted to at least get the first vote/post in!

this poll is just for interest, food for thought, pause for reflection. Perhaps one might see the need while reading this and think of someone such as I who would visit a church that had one.

I don't think mine has one, I wish it did though. The AA meetings in town are Christian based though. Thanks, you just gave me an idea to try and get one started at church! Thanks

Here is a site to a christian based AA type program called Celebrate Recovery that has meetings across the US and its 12 Step Program is scriptural based and taught.

I have been to their meetings in the past and enjoyed them. has a place where you can click for locations near you.

Tradition Six: An AA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the AA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

A religious organization cannot support an A.A. group, neither can an A.A. group support a religious organization.

A church may lend the use of it's facilities to an A.A. group but it cannot be seen as an endorsement of that religion.

In other words, for example, there can be an A.A. group meeting at a Methodist church, but in no way can it advertise itself as a Methodist A.A. meeting.

A church may set up their own recovery program, and even use the 12 steps and such, but it cannot use the A.A. name in any way.

A.A. is inclusive of all religions, political affiliations, social standings, etc., etc., etc. Our primary purpose is to help others to recover from alcoholism...not to preach, push, or cajole a person into any belief.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

yes, you are correct. I didnt say it correctly when I wrote the OP. I meant to say what the church has access to or allows to have or lets use of, etc. The Poll options had it right but my OP said it wrong.

thanks for clarifying this! I will make the change.
