• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have just come back from the Ukrane and have been in Iraq also. The images of my unit getting injured by Claymore and C4 will live with me forever.

Just last night the images were in my head and watching a squad member who I can only call shauny, getting shot so badly that he couldnt make the final push, we were totaly dominated in the field.

Not sure what to do about it, I have tried meeting with the old squad but they are hit with the same problems.

Get help.

It sounds like you have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Lots of soldiers have it... and not many know what to do about it.

Seek out a therapist who knows how to do EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). Here is an article about it if you want to read.

I'm not a therapist/pdoc, but I am a psych major and have been recently reading about PTSD and EMDR... EMDR has helped with memories that regular talk-therapy can't help with...

...I don't know if it's for you, but it is at least something to read up on.

I agree with SoulWings. If possible, I would try to seek professional help. As a soldier, you should be able to access that through your unit. They can help you to work through the memories and find ways to handle this :)

As for the type of therapy, it is completely up to you and what works. EMDR while helpful for some, isn't always good for others. It depends on you and your personality.

I think what is more important is just looking around if possible - finding a counsellor/therapist that you feel comfortable and who can help you. :)
