  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey there:

I'm new here, so if I've posted this question in the wrong forum I apologize, and request that I be directed to the right one. Here's my question:

My bible study group has asked me to research study guides on Ephesians for a study that we'll be starting in a couple of weeks. I'm to look for an inductive/workbook study guide, the kind where the book poses questions and you can fill in your own answers.

A little information on our study: we're composed of eight married couples, ages ranging from mid-twenties to late-forties. All of us have been practicing Christians for at least ten years, and many for much longer.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings Mr. Wesley,

Your best bet would be just to plug some queries into Google and follow the leads. As for your own personal study, if you have not done so, you should download a free copy of E-Sword Bible program. It is loaded with commentaries which you will find as extremely useful. Just go to:

I would say to study the text by yourself first and then make your own study guides. Most study guides that you purchase are either too simplistic and lack textual depth, or else they are tailored to a certain audience, which is not the best way to go.

Become an expert on Ephesians yourself, and then you will know what it is your class needs to hear. My top two suggestions for commentaries would be Stott's commentary, God's New Society (from the Bible Speaks Today Series), for a good overview of the main ideas (which is helpful in your case); and for your in-depth study, a must-have is P.T. O'Brien's The Letter to the Ephesians (Pillar New Testament Commentary Series).

Have a great time in Ephesus. :)
