I know Jesus warned us not to make vows, or we will be required to keep them. But on the other hand, many people make vows to God that are foolish, and many without even thinking ("I swear to God I'm going to kill that guy!").
Are there any Bible verses that would prove that God would forgive vows? I know God will forgive sins, but are vows considered sins?
I know many Catholic priests take a vow to God of celibacy. Does this mean they could never marry or have a family for the rest of their lives, if the Lord leads them to become let's say, Pentecostal, and the man would like to marry and have a family of his own? I can see if the man didn't repent of the vow, but wouldn't God be willing to forgive vows if we repent of them?
What if somebody got really mad at God and yelled out "GOD I VOW NEVER TO READ MY BIBLE AGAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!" Would God honestly hold that person to such a foolish vow??
Something tells me that God HAS to forgive vows we repent of, but I'm hoping to find some Bible verses or concepts that would prove it more clearly.
Any thoughts or input?
