CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you think of this quote from Ronald Reagan?

I think it is as beautiful as anything I've ever heard. It's from his farewell speech in 1989. He wrote many great, eloquent speeches during his political career.

"I've spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don't know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity, and if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That's how I saw it and see it still."

Reagan was an amazing president who truly believed in the American dream and wanted every citizen to have an opportunity to pursue their dreams and make our country better. He realized that it's the PEOPLE, not the government, that make our country great and I couldn't agree more.

I think we should've learned from the healthcare thing to not have such openly political threads.

But to get on topic, I would venture to suggest that Barack Obama is the Democratic Ronald Reagan.

In addition to the political problems with that statement, Regan enjoyed a huge base of support among democracts. The "Regan Democrats" as they were called, made Regan a unifing figure in the US. Obama has no such support, and has been just as divisive as Bush the younger was.

That should state:
Bill Clinton is the Democratic Ronald Reagan, due to policies. There were similarities between Clinton and Reagan. The only similarities I see is, the increasing of public debt...Reagan tripled it, Obama increased it big time.

So far we can't say Obama is going to have tax policies that put the pressure on American Middle-Class workers and take the spot light off of rich non-tax paying rich people or going to commit a Iran-Contra affair, or blow up Medicine factories in Bosnia as happened under Clinton. ;) :p

Btw-I do like some of Reagan's views, and his speeches, statements from other people he used are great orator speechs :cool: Another great speech was the end of our intervention with the communists with the Polish government that seems to get overlooked in history.

Actually, radhead, Allen is probably right in the first sentence. He, like most politicians, had speech writers. One of my history classes has been spent on researching historical speeches (and the stories behind them). One student chose Reagan's Berlin Wall speech, which was written by some guy who's name I can't recall.

I wouldn't say that Reagan was amazing for his speeches, except in the delivery of them. He was an amazing political actor, something that most politicians wish they were. He was very inspiring in his day. I may strongly disagree that he was a great president and dislike his policies, however, there are very few presidents who have had the kind of following and support he had.

I would disagree that Reagan and Obama have anything in common. I would say Reagan and FDR had more in common, on the opposite ends of the spectrum, of course. Obama is too much of a moderate to get the kind of cult support that Reagan got. He's too busy trying to please both parties that he has infuriated the Democratic Party's more liberal base.

I already explained my point in making that statement, so you really should read a bit later into the threads. I appreciate the gusto, though. ;)

And somehow just in the past 20 years of it's nearly 250 year history, the Office of the Presidency isn't a real job now? :confused: Confusing me there, mate.
