  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi,
I was wondering what your thoughts are on reading the Bible through computer programs like BibleOcean, E-Sword, etc. Do you get the same value & information about HIS word as you would opening the book itself? I can't read books and such much due to an eye problem so I ordered BibleOcean's cd & teen Bible Explorer.

Your comments would be much appreciated.

The same question may have been posed when the move was made from scrolls to bound books. The media doesn't matter as long as the information is injested. :) I prefer to read from a book, but that is a preference only.

God bless you,
Dave

I was just reading a few days ago that the medieval clergy were suspicious of the printing press. They thought that if everyone had a Bible in their hands, nobody would pay attention and listen to sermons!

And one of the big Greek philosophers (I don't remember if it was Soctrates or Aristotle) thought the very act of writing things down on parchment or papyrus would rot the intellect. Before writing, information was transmitted only by voice and you had to memorize everything.

Seems like every new technology has to overcome some inertia.

BTW...I just prefer holding a book in my hands myself!

Yep. It is a preference issue, I agree. For me, I like to hold the Book in my hands and rub my fingers on the pages.

Hi Jesse,

As long as the 'online' versions stay true to the original translations, no harm done.
Gotta love modern technology !

Good answer Honibee!
