Yes, I like some of his books and the cartoon is one of my favorite childhood shows.
It was such a shame the show didn't live up to its full potential. It was planned to have 36 episodes spanning across the first three books but the company lost funding so they settled with 13 episodes loosely based on the first book.
I can think of movies like 'Eragon' and 'The Last Airbender' that were planned to be a a series but did so poorly with the fans of the original material that they discontinued the series after the first installment and left them ending with a cliffhanger.
Growing up, I could also think of a number of one season wonders that I really enjoyed growing up. Silverwing, Elfen Lied, Freaks and Geeks, Legend of Calamity Jane, Cybersix, among others.
Making a movie or television series is always a risky move. It costs lots of money and require the right people to make it work.
I saw it with my girlfriend at the time and we both agreed it was terrible. I never watched the original series.
I saw Sixth Sense, Signs, Split, The Happening, and The Last Airbender. The Sixth Sense is definitely his most defining one with the perfect plot twist.
Four years can make all the difference in a generation's childhood. Most of the shows I watched as a child were from the late 1990's and early 2000's
Silverwing first aired in 2003.
Elfen Lied is an adult anime that my friend and I would watch in Junior High.
Freaks and Geeks was a live action sitcom that ran from 1999 to 2000.
The Legend of Calamity Jane is an obscure cartoon that would likely not be considered appropriate for today's audience due to all the gun violence and mature themes.
While watching Split I was waiting for the signature twist ending. All I saw was an aged Bruce Willis and did not understand it at all.
The 1990's were an awesome time to be a child, period. I remember the last three years mostly for the cartoons, video games, and my elementary school years. I actually really wish I was born in the mid to late 1980's so I can experience more of the 1990's.
It also reminds me of a quote from a 90's movie called 'Dazed and Confused'...
"The 50's were crap. The 60's were awesome. The 70's were crap. Do you think the 80's will be awesome?"
