Name: Rakol Punyal
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Description: Rakol at first looks like a big, droopy-eyed boy. He is tall, a good 6’ 4’’, broad-shouldered, slim-hipped, the kind of build women will faint for. His face is boyish in appearance, holding a closed, somewhat sad expression, which when combined with his unnaturally pale blue eyes that droop down at the corners, make him seem to be either half asleep or overly dreamy. His rich black hair hangs down in bangs that get in his eyes, only adding to his “emo” look. Like all members of the Shanmarvix, he wears black, of the form-fitting variety that includes a scarf to bide his face while in the shadows. Contrary to tradition, he always carries in his hand a greatsword, the blade of which is about six feet long, and an evil-looking throwing knife tucked into his belt. These are his only weapons, an unusual thing for one of the Lost.
Personality: To the casual observer, Rakol may seem a silent simpleton with his head in the clouds. He will sit and listen to you, and look at you with his sad puppy eyes as though he could not possibly resist should you strike him with your fist. Indeed he might let you hit him if no harm will come of it . . . but you will probably die later of natural causes. He has a soft voice which he seldom raises above a whisper. He is a man with the mind of a snake; patient, cunning, and filled with a quiet greed. He is a passive deceiver; that is Rakol at the core.
Background: Rakol was the older of two children born to a noble Eyrelan family. Orphaned at a young age due to a mysterious attack on his parents’ manor, he and his sister Kaima were found and taken in by the then notorious thief, Silyo Duropuso, who subsequently adopted them and took them with him into hiding. There, at the great castle of Heavenflame, amongst the towering Calkeis, Rakol grew into a young man.
As a boy, he was intense and thoughtful. As a student of the shadow-masters, he was sloppy, inattentive, and passive-aggressive. He had dreams of treasure, of power, of ruling, of glory, yet he chose to live in those fantasies rather than learn the skills he would need to one day become the Seventh Shadow in his father’s footsteps. It was a common occurrence to hear of Rakol Punyal being disciplined for the distracted look in his eyes, and he was known to spend hours atop Heavenflam’s highest tower, staring into nothing.
Because of his poor training, the Shadows deemed him unfit to be Tested, and at 22 Rakol was officially removed from the rolls of the Lost. His sister Kaima, however, passed all four tests and became a full-fledged shadow-walker. Jealousy did burn in the heart of the brother, but Rakol hid his thoughts, as he always has. He was allowed to remain alive and at Heavenflame only because he was Silyo’s son.
Eight years later, he changed…
SPECIAL SKILLS
Deep inside the cliff on which Heavenflame rests, there reside the lost treasures of the Bel-Ial cult that once owned the castle. Many wondrous and terrible artifacts are to be found here; all are cursed, and the vaults themselves harbor a curse which must fall on all who enter without the Keystone, which is lost. When the Shanmarvix made Heavenflame its home, the vaults were sealed off and declared forbidden, for the safety of the walkers. However, one man driven by curiosity and visions of greed did enter therein, and was cursed, and cursed thricefold for what he took.
Kagali – The greatsword Rakol carries is six feet long in the blade, yet he can wield it as though it weighs an ounce. Its name is Kagali, and the enchantment on it makes it seem a feather to the wielder, while in striking it lands with fifty pounds of force. It cannot be broken by any means, but it is only as sharp as any other sword. On the flip side, if the wielder of Kagali attempts to abandon it, or give it away, he or she will die a slow, horrific deat.
Corroda – Corroda, the throwing knife at Rakol’s belt, also holds a curse hidden behind a blessing. It will always return to the wielder’s hand upon call, unless physical forces restrain it. In addition, if it enters a surface, it will begin to eat away at that surface as though coated with powerful acid. However, Corroda demands to be fed life. It must be used to kill once a month, else it will begin to feed on its wielder’s life. If it feels abandoned, Corroda will follow its master and kill him or her.
