Okay I'm posting this under my spare username which I use to hide my real identity because of the topic. But I really wanted to post this somewhere for others to read. I go on a random bible quote website, (ESV) and I was getting kind of worked up earlier about an article I had seen about how eating disorders were a sin and were shallow, and vain, and selfish because you were turning away from God, so anyway, I went on this random bible verse of the day, and out of the thousands of verses there was this one for today:
“But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
1 Corinthians 8:8-9”
Okay, I know it has another meaning, but I'm going to take it at face value - I didn't believe that God could truely hate someone for being anorexic or bulimic because people with real problems with food can still have faith and have underlying issues that cause the ED in the first place, it's not always got anything to do with being shallow or vain and I am just glad that God showed me this verse today, because although it has another meaning I think it was his way of telling me that he doesn't hate or condem people with eating problems - it's a mental illness and a struggle to eat everyday, not a sinful action we choose to do. We can fight it, and yes, we can fail, but like God says in the above quote, food does not bring us nearer to God.
Near that quote was something else in my bible, another quote, highlighted in an orange box which said
"God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand."
Again, I know the first quote has another meaning, but please, considering what I was thinking about at the time, can we take this at face value and know that God does not hate us for being ill.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has read this. You can reply, or PM me, or email or whatever, and I would hope that maybe this might help someone else too.
God bless,
Jane

EDIT: I just noticed the date when I was putting a bookmark in my bible. It's 08/08/08 and verse 8:8.
I love God.

P.S Why won't it show numbers???
