  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

QUOTE A POEM
New thread started by Albertine Retrouvee

Post a quotation from a poem here! Or, in my case right now, a whole poem:

GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE
As seen in Bartlett's Quotations
How odd
Of God
To choose
The Jews.

Jesus

Ignoble of all yet still we decrease
Lower till the bit falls and we cease
To who was, is, and is to come
Though may be a blip to some
Is glory, immortality, and honour
To those who in well-doing seek peaceful days
In turbulent times of the world's laud and praise
Nevertheless, to exude the highs of the Divine life
In a world barren from its utterances given
Are like gazing at a diamond with refractions of light
That pierce even our own souls also
And in this we marvel for what we thought
Was pieces lost and forgotten
Has turned to our hope's only Begotten

(My own poem)

"Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were ev'ry stalk on earth a quill,
And ev'ry man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Tho' stretched from sky to sky."

This is an excerpt from the song Best News Ever by MercyMe, one of my favorite Christian bands. It's not technically a poem, but I think it still qualifies. It's a very passionate song, and a powerful reminder of the simplicity of the gospel. It really is the best news ever.

Some say, "Don't give up"
And hope that your good is good enough
Head down, keep on working
If you can earn it, you deserve it
Some say, "Push on through"
After all, it's the least that you can do
But don't buy what they're selling
It couldn't be further from the truth

What if I were the one to tell you
That the fight's already been won
Well, I think your day's about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work's already been done
It's not good news
It's the best news ever

Some say, "Don't ask for help"
God helps the ones who help themselves
So press on, get it right
Otherwise, get left behind
Some say "He's keeping score"
"So try hard, then try a little more"
But hold up, if this were true
Explain to me what the cross is for!

What if I were the one to tell you
That the fight's already been won
Well, I think your day's about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work's already been done
It's not good news
It's the best news ever

Part of the Völuspá in the Poetic Edda

Brothers shall fight, and slay each other;
sisters’ children shall violate kinship;
Hard is the world, much whoredom
an axe age, a sword age
Shields are cloven.
A wind age, a wolf age,
ere the world falls.
no man will spare another.
