I realise that quiet time is important as a Christian, to engage with the word of God, build your relationship with Him, seek his guidance and wisdom and to learn more of him. While these are reasons why we should have quiet time, how do you guys motivate yourselves to keep it up and make time for it? What are some of the things you do during that time? :)

Sometimes I've found at the courier job I have that I can notice things I never did before if I turn off the radio or take a day off from my podcasts and just take in the noise of that around me. It might not be "quiet time," since there are cars driving around me and, depending on where I go, the sounds of the city, but that becomes simply ambiance as I allow my mind to focus.

I make time for it by making time for it. God is number one...and if I'm gonna live like He is and not just say it, I have to rearrange my life so that He really is. He's the center of my life, and I don't just try to live my life and fit Him in. I've learned that just doesn't work. I've had to rearrange my life so He's the everything and I fit everything else around him...so if I have to kick some stuff out in order to have a few extra hours for just Him, I do. And then I stick to it.

there are times when my alarm goes off in the morning, and I so easily could press the snooze button and write it off because "God knows I'm tired"...but if I had to be at work, I would hop out of bed the second it went off...if God's number one, I need to hop out of bed for Him, too. ....So, I keep the times I set to be with God by putting any and all excuses and reasons aside and just being with Him.

The more time I spend with Him and get to know Him, the more I find that I don't have to motivate myself to keep the time I set for Him...I WANT it..NEED it in fact. I find myself absolutely dreading going to work some days, because I would rather continue to sit as His feet.

During my "quiet time" I obviously pray and read the Bible. I have a list of other books I'm reading through too. I break out several translations to compare verses/chapters/books of the Bible I'm reading, I listen and then journal about what I hear Him telling me. Etc, etc.

A great way for me to remember to do it is that if I'm coming back from work or class, it's the first thing I do (besides take the dog out). Once I turn on the computer or the TV, it's hard to get my mind to get out of entertainment mode, so I might as well do my QT first.

We make time for the things that are important to us, so if God is truly important then we'll find time to spend with Him and study His Word. I usually do mine at night but sometimes I'll do it in the morning and sometimes I'll do both. Just find time and you'll eventually get in the habit. :)

the best way I've found is not to wait for the mood to strike me to spend time in the Word or in prayer, because it could be days before I feel like doing that. I do it anyway and find once I've started reading or praying that everything else just kinda melts away and I can focus on Him.

By praying the Divine Office every day, one prays eight times a day to God. Add to that Bible reading and mental and vocal prayer and that's already quite a bit.

Oh yeah, I should mention this from Baltimore Catechism #3:

1099. What is prayer? A. Prayer is the lifting up of our minds and hearts to God, to adore Him, to thank Him for His benefits, to ask His forgiveness, and to beg of Him all the graces we need whether for soul or body.

1110. Why does God not always grant our prayers? A. God does not always grant our prayers for these and other reasons:
1. Because we may not pray in the proper manner;
2. That we may learn our dependence on Him, prove our confidence in Him, and merit rewards by our patience and perseverance in prayer.
Prudent persons do not grant every request; why, then, should God do so?

1111. What assurance have we that God always hears and rewards our prayers, though He may not grant what we ask?
A. We have the assurance of Our Lord Himself that God always hears and rewards our prayers, though He may not grant what we ask; for Christ said: "Ask and it shall be given you," and "if you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it to you."

1118. Why should we pray when God knows our needs?
A. We pray not to remind God or tell Him of what we need, but to acknowledge that He is the Supreme Giver, to adore and worship Him by showing our entire dependence upon Him for every gift to soul or body.
