I am not out for a big lengthy discussion. I just want to know.

When you are denouncing the response of "God did it" in answer to a question, why the tendency to put it as all one word, "Goddidit"? Where did that start?

Thanks.

You shouldn't assume all skeptics lack belief in God, and that those who do use the term Goddidit.

I don't use it, and I don't know where it started. But it's a sarcastic expression, used to mock the idea that God is the reason for everything that can't be explained.

What I think of when I see that expression is how some Christian parents answer a child's questions about the natural world -- every single question -- with some version of "God did it", and with no deeper explanation. I have witnessed that before and always found it painful to listen to, because I sense a growing light in a child's questioning mind being snuffed out.

It is the repetitious nature of the answer that makes me think that it is shortened to "Goddidit".

Where did that start?

No idea.

Personally I don't use that term but I see it all the time. When ever somebody answers a question with "God did it" I hear "magic" so it really doesn't matter how they say it. I'm not a skeptic though.

Thanks for the explanations. I wasn't assuming all skeptics did that, just asking the ones who do, or know something about it.

I actually thought it was also a play on US Southern drawls and the stereotype that US Southerners are ignorant and can't speak properly, etc, tbh. When I see it or hear it, I envision a stereotypical generic "Bible Belt" type of person saying it with conviction: "Goddidit."

Anyone who knows South Park ... South Park's "They took our jobs !" is similar in my mind.

Atheist version: "physicsdidit" "evolutiondidit". And if you ask for the origins of physics and biology you get "nothingdidit".
Just as all skeptics do not use the term "Goddidit", those who seek to educate themselves in the areas you mentioned and/or appeal to those areas for explanations of reality, are not just atheists.

Yes certainly, but my point was that we're all in the same boat. It's impossible for "them" to sound any smarter than "us".

And I do endorse the idea "Goddidit". If a child asks his parent why the sky is blue, a parent who says "Goddidit" is correct. God did it, either directly or indirectly. A parent who has studied the physics of light can give more details, but more details is all.

I was hoping that what I stated in that post, went without saying. However I didn't get the point you are saying you were making from that, tbh.

And actually, I do think people can "sound smart" or "sound ignorant", depending on context. It's largely subjective, of course. And no, it doesn't equate with whether or not some actually does have intelligence in an area or not either.

Do you endorse if someone claimed to their child that some other supernatural entity was responsible for such things ?

Yes people can sound dumb, I do it all the time. But technically, it's arguable whether either position has any more validity than the other.

What other entity?

There is a reason why the sky appears blue.
