  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How would you deal with accusations that paul contradicts Jesus in 1 corinthians? Like, claims that Paul is contradicting Jesus' command in 1 Corinthians[bless and do not curse]9:14? He says Jesus commanded that he should recieve his living by the Gospel but Paul says he doesnt need to follow it in verse 15?

I would point them back to an earlier portion of Chapter 9:
"It is written in the Law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing." God is not concerned about oxen, is He? Or is He speaking altogether for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing the crops. If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we should reap material things from you? If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ." 1 Corinthians 9:9-12
Paul has the right to expect to make his living from the Gospel, but he also has the right to do what is best for the Gospel in a given situation. Other cities and churches supported him financially, but for the sake of the Gospel, he chose not to receive the support due him in Corinth.

Quite frankly, the "command" you speak of coming from God the Father and from Christ that, "you shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing", is a command to the people to give, not for priests and preachers to receive.

Hi SFT,

I would agree with proverbs that the 'truth' seems to be that you, like many others in Peter's day, don't understand what you are reading. Here's what I believe the Scriptures instruct in such things. When you find a piece of Scripture that would seem contradictory or difficult to understand, rather than coming to this place where you really have no assurance that anyone will tell you the truth and whether you will recognize it as the truth if one did, pray and ask your Father for wisdom and understanding.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." My encouragement would be that you find a quiet place and spend some time poring out your concern to the Father and ask Him for understanding. He gives generously to all without finding fault.

That is how I would deal with someone who professed to be a believer and came at me with such a question. If the person is not a believer and you are just sharing arguments with unbelievers, well do you really expect that they know the truth about the things of God? For them, I wouldn't much concern myself with trying to explain the truth of some of the more difficult things of the Scriptures to understand, but rather concentrate on the simple truth of who Jesus is and what he has done for them. If they accept that, then one day they will likely understand the other. If not, then they are no worse off than when they began, but you have been faithful.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted
