  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not quite a Christian. Although I have been reading a book called "The Purpose Driven Life" which is really making me start to believe in the principles of Christianity.

I have some questions: What would be God's advice for someone who is surrounded by people who are not like them and cannot get away from them? I am in a situation like this and I do not know what to do. I don't want to be mean and uninterested around them but at the same time I don't want to betray myself. Also, what would be God's advice for someone who is constantly being annoyed and teased by others? I know that life is full of tests, but how does God want us to react in certain situations? Does he wants us to do what we feel we should do? I have been reading about how life is just a path to 'eternity' and thus we should prepare for it. What kind of person does God want us to be? Just simply one who believes in him, prays for him, and loves him and his world he created?

the one big message in the bible, besides salvation (which also originates from love), is love. Of course, it is hard to love people around you who are very different and don't seems to be interested in what you're interested in, and don't seems to be interested in your welfare. But being christian, following the example of Jesus, christians should endure it with the strength from God. Endurance, patience..

what would be God's advice for someone who is constantly being annoyed and teased by others?

this happened to me in the past years. Usually this type of situation generates two types of response, the person either pulls closer to God or pulls away. I think pulling closer is the result of reliance on God. In God, you feel that nothing out there can touch you, for they cannot destroy a soul safe in God's arms. :)

and things will get better, not only better in the years to come, but also getting better in the stressing period because your burden is shared with Him.

I know that life is full of tests, but how does God want us to react in certain situations? Does he wants us to do what we feel we should do? I have been reading about how life is just a path to 'eternity' and thus we should prepare for it. What kind of person does God want us to be? "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything." - James 1:2-4

and what kinds of person does God want us to be? read how Jesus walked his life in the bible. If you were interested in devotion, i would suggest "Just Like Jesus" by Max Lucado. That, is what God wants us to be.

maybe you should make a thread in the "Questions about Christianity" forum. You should get more answers there. :)

great book :D

What would be God's advice for someone who is surrounded by people who are not like them and cannot get away from them?
To Be like His Son; After becoming a Christian. Jesus was surrounded by a world that was not like Him

Also, what would be God's advice for someone who is constantly being annoyed and teased by others?
The Bible says we are not to be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. When Christ was "made fun of" he didn't lash out, but rather was quiet. Most often people like that feed off of your reactions.. I owulodn't react to them, and they'll probaly stop

I know that life is full of tests, but how does God want us to react in certain situations?
it depends.. Though I can say the Bible will have all the answer you need. Bible gateway

Does he wants us to do what we feel we should do?
he gives us guidelines on what we should do, and how we should react...

Just simply one who believes in him, prays for him, and loves him and his world he created?
There's only one way to get into heaven. As jesus said, "i am the truth, the way, and the life; No man comes to the father, but by Me." You must come to Christ.

A. Realize you're a sinner (sin is the things that we think, say, and do that goes against God's law or the Bible, what would make Him sad). That everyone in this world has sinned (done wrong things) and since God is perfect and just, He must judge the sin; This is seperation form Him, even for eternity.

Romans 3:23
'For all have sinned to fall short of the glory of God."

Romans 6:23
'For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Ecclesiastes 7:10
"For there is not a just man upon the earth, that does good and sins not."

B. Jesus is the answer, you see God gave us His Son to come and pay the punishment for our sins. Christ came and lived a perfect life, grew up and was killed in our place. Since the wages of sin is death, and "without the shedding of blood is no forgiveness." There had to be one that was perfect to take the punishment; Christ took your sin and bore it so you wouldn't have to suffer in hell, if you will but believe in Him.
To sum it up, because men are sinners and have already fallen short of God's glory, there is nothing we could do to pay that debt of sin that was on us. So Christ paid it for us...
C. You must recieve Christ as your Savior. You see, God is a gentlemen and will not force Himsef upon you, He offers you a free gift but you must recieve it to use it. Ask God to forgive you of your sins and the wrong things you have done, and to save you from the punishment of sins (since you cannot save yourself)...

My advice is this, it depends on how you feel about yourself, why not try discussing this new concept of being a good person with your friends...you might find a few allies in there with you. And if they dont want to know I'm sure you'll meet a few people along the way who will.

Read the Bible...its a good place to start if you want to know more about christianity

just trying to make me feel bad

I would just walk away, hold your words. Because you have someone bigger and strong, on your side, that would be Jesus Christ. You do not know what is going on in side this person who is attacking you.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

So if you are close to becoming a Christian, you may have powers that are trying to stop you.
