  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1. Are people chosen by God or not?

2. My pastor taught last week that Moses did not have a destiny as a prophet. I find this really strange. Did God not choose him? Did He not know before Moses was born what he was going to accomplish for Him?

3. He taught that Moses' mother abandoned him to die out of fear of what the Egyptians would do to her. I understood those verses to be that she was trying to protect him, as the boy would be put to death if found? Wasn't Pharaoh's death sentence against male children, not their mothers?

My pastor is very good at speaking and tells great jokes, but I'm getting increasing concerned that he just invents stuff that isn't based on the Word. Hence, I need to check that these teachings are biblical.

Thank you.

People are chosen by God, however we have free will. We can choose whether or not to follow God. The reason for the free will? Love. With out a choice we cannot love someone, even God cannot force love. Love in every situation has to be chosen by both sides.

So yes people are chosen by God, but the people have a choice too. God will not force them. The same is true with Moses, God chose him, you couldn't deny that. But God did not control him or force him, we see this in Moses life with all the mistakes he made. Let's not forget that Moses "screwed up" God's original plan and was not allowed into the Holy Land. He was chosen yes, but he was not controlled.

Pharaoh's decree was that all the babies be killed not the mothers. However it would not be a stretch to assume that mother who tried to protect their children would be killed as well. Your pastor could very well be referring to that.

I think it is very good to not just take what your pastor says at face value, as long as it's done respectively. You should investigate stuff in the Bible on your own and see what it says for yourself. That's when it all becomes real too you. If you are concerned about this stuff with your pastor I would suggest you talk with him about it. I'm sure he would be very happy to sit down and answer your questions! I would give him the benefit of the doubt, but check it out yourself!

Yes - we are made in his image.

2. My pastor taught last week that Moses did not have a destiny as a prophet. I find this really strange. Did God not choose him? Did He not know before Moses was born what he was going to accomplish for Him?

That is one for your Pastor to respond to - it was he who gave the teaching.

What does the Bible say? Exodus chapter 1.

Thank you.

You probably need to change churches or do you own study.
