Questions about tattoos

Patty, I think that I might be able to give you some advice here. This whole discussion revolves around the ancient Jews getting involved with the peoples that they conquered in their travels to the Promised land. God had told them that they should not get any kind of markings of these peoples. However, the thing to remember, is that they were under the command of the law, not under grace, as we as Believers are. I myself have over $1500 worth of body art. Only one of my tattoos have I ever regretted getting, & I had that covered up a couple of months back. The best advice from the Bible that I can give you comes from I Samuel 16:7-".....FOR MAN LOOKS AT THE OUTWARD APPERANCE, BUT GOD LOOKS UPON THE HEART" Ask yourself these two questions: (1) How would getting a tattoo affect you? Would it make you feel better about yourself? That was the reason that I got mine. (2) How would it affect your relationship with others? Would they be offended by it? I know for myself: I got all of my tattoos when I was backslidden, so I can't totally know what it is like to get one (especially if you don't have one now), now that you are a believer. I can tell you this: God won't judge you any differently whether or not you do get a tattoo. As stated above, He cares more about the condition of your heart, not the apperance of your body. I hope that I have been a little help here. God Bless, my sister!

I'm considering getting a tattoo and have been doing some research on it and have decided that it is not wrong if you have good intentions with it. I think that if you are going to get a tattoo and you are a Christian it is a great way of showing your love for God and all he has done for us. If someone sees the tattoo and asks about it that is a great opening to talk to them about Christ. I think that a Christian tattoo would open doors to people who would never be reached in any other way. I hope you are successful in your descision and God Bless.

well in my opinion tattoo's are pretty cool, I know some people who have got their favorate Pslams on their arms or the Cross. I think it would help you keep your feith actully, like if I wear to get one I'd probably put "Jesus" on my wrist, so every time I look at my wrist, I know I bolong to Jesus and God, sortta like a reminder if you would every go astray.

I have a few comments on the whole tattoo issue.

The bible does refer to the body as a temple and warns against the disfigurement of that temple, However I have been told this by women wearing ear rings. Is this not a disfigurement in the eyes of God? I have not been saved very long at all and I am still searching for God's way in my life. I actually have no tattoo's and I do not know if I will ever get one. There is one that I wanted even before I got saved, it is a tribal crown of thorns on the head of Jesus. I do not feel that a tattoo after asking God to forgive your sins will prevent you from entering heaven, if it would then why did he send his son in the first place? But on the other hand I do beleive that it could hurt your witness with people that are opposed to tattoos. However it could actually open doors for witnessing to people in other groups of people. Until I have been able to deeply study the word, and apply that word more deeply too my life, i remain confused on this subject.
sorry about rambling on, these are just some thoughts I had on this subject.

We are not under the law!!
If you read ALL of Leviticus then ask yourself, do you EAT the way you are suppoed to? Do you or your husband (if you are married) cut your hair, trim you beard shave your head?? Scripture is not a salad bar, you don't pick out what suits you and leave the rest!! If you want to live under the law, then pick all of the law, not just the ones that are easy to follow, like not getting a tatoo. Sorry but legalism makes me SOOO angry. Forgive me.

Ok, this isn't exactly about tatoos but piercings, if God wanted us to have piercings and earrings would he not have given us the 'holes' to have them in the first place?
You have got to think outisde of the box.
Everything we have is given to us to either use or not use. We develop things and ideas (earings...the idea of piercing our ears..etc.) from the minds that God gave us.
No we were not given the "holes" but neither were we given shaving kits at birth (somehow built in to our bodies...?) either, yet many men (and women) shave everyday....the Lord does not instucts us to, but we do it anyway, and last time I checked, shaving isn't evil (unless you are under the law and follow the commands given in Leviticus..).
Not everything we have or do is commanded of us. Nor is it evil because it isn't commanded by God.
So to say that piercings are not okay with God just because He didn't give us the holes in the first place is not right.

What do you not understand. Do you suggest that we serve a different God to the Children of Israel who has a lesser standard for us to be holy?
Read Acts 15:28-29. The laws on tatoos did not make the list. Neither did the fashion laws, or the dietary laws, cleanliness laws, etc. We serve the same God, but Gentiles like us are far more free than Jewish brothers.

And you believe that they should be less holy too eh?
