  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hmm. Honestly, it isn't something I pay much attention to. I buy the best product at the best price, regardless of politics. I.e., I buy Ben & Jerry's ice cream, even though they support a variety of leftist causes, because it's the best ice cream and comes in flavors I love. It's not cheap but it's really good. But if I were buying on the basis of politics? My party is the Libertarian Party, not the GOP, and yeah, I guess I would go a little out of my way to support a libertarian company. But they'd still have to have a good product at a competitive price.

I'd rather spend my money on a reputable charity than a politician. There are too many bad apples out there. Remember, if you give to the party, it's the WHOLE party.

GoodSearch - Web search, coupons, discounts & deals for charity!

There are probably hundreds of thousands of non-profits there to search/buy on behalf of. It's structured similar to MyPoints. I just discovered my church's school in there so next time I'll be using that to support them!

OpenSecrets.org tracks money in politics very thoroughly. It's non-partisan. If you want to find out which party, group, or candidate is giving or receiving money, they'll have it.

Top All-Time Donors, 1989-2010

What you'll find is that most corporations will play it safe and contribute to the incumbent, since incumbents statistically keep their offices. And if you contribute enough money, they may not necessarily vote your way, but they will meet with you.

Hmm. Honestly, it isn't something I pay much attention to. I buy the best product at the best price, regardless of politics.

It's pretty much the same here. Of course, I am moderate when it comes to politics because Republicans and Democrats have both good and bad agendas, which places me somewhere in between. Also, it's like walking on pins and needles (to me, anyway) to constantly pick and choose every company and organization just for every little thing I don't believe in. Every time I go shopping, it never fails that I see dirty magazines, cigarettes, and alcoholic beverages being sold (not to mention the fact that I don't doubt there are some deceptive and unconventional dealings and practices that go on behind the scenes). And I definitely won't even step foot in places that actually specialize in sinful lifestyles (such as XXX theaters), so I realize there are some things that are definitely given. But that doesn't stop me from going out and doing what I need to do. I just stick to my personal beliefs, and the rest falls into place.

It's pretty much the same type of thing with the friends I have and people I hang around. If I dropped a friend just because I discover that his/her convictions or opinions are different from my own -- heck, I'd be one lonely and miserable person!

Anyway, I don't want to drift too far off topic, so.... carry on.... :)

Pretty much all of them do. At Republican HQ, that is what they call "their base."

Uh, no. Most corporations, as is well known, contribute most of their monies to Democratic candidates. You may have a point about this being surprising considering that the Democrats are not interested in growing the economy, but it's more a matter of which candidate is more willing to respond favorably to an unofficial bribe.

Look at the Chamber of Commerce voting record to see you supports Big Business's agenda. There is a reason the GOP was so happy with the recent S.C. ruling.

Everything Big Business wants is on the GOP agenda: Oppose Wall Street and Bank Reform bill, oppose minimum wage increase, oppose Employee Free Choice Act, oppose Workplace Safety enforcement, support Most favored Nation Status for China, etc. etc.

The Chamber is not the "Big Business" Corporations, the subject of this thread.

Everything Big Business wants is on the GOP agenda
That may be, but the money still goes mainly to Democrats. That's the fact of it, illogical as it may seem to you (and others, I am sure).

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce certainly is Big Business.

Sure the Demcorats get some money from business. But if they take their money and still vote against them, good for the Democrats. It is the GOP who is in lockstep with the Big Business Agenda.

We need politicans that stand up for the consumers, working families and victims of corporate cheating.

What I meant is that the 'Chamber' is not the same as 'Big Business.' The words are not interchangeable.

Ah, well then that is an entirely different matter, isn't it? The thread is not about why we should villify the business sector of the economy.

We need politicans that stand up for the consumers, working families and victims of corporate cheating.
Why don't you start a thread sprecifically about that, on an appropriate forum, and see what you get?
