Large quantity of soy is generally not recommended. Why in small quantity?
I drink a lot of silk soy milk because it helps soothe my stomach. Is that bad?
It has something to do with heat changes the chemical compound of soy. I'll dig up some study on this. Why no heated soy?

I'd only get the soy milk in the Asian market that's bottled. Soy milk was originally made in China only by grinding the water-soaked soy beans. No heating process.

There are lots of anti-soy web sites out there, and they talk about many of the issues addressed in this article (which I thought was fairly reasonable). From what I've read, it seems that cooking soybeans actually deactivates some of the potentially harmful substances in soy. I believe that it's most important to avoid eating processed, packaged soy products, to eat only things made with whole soybeans (I buy organic, non-GMO soybeans), and to eat them in limited amounts.Argument 1: Anti-nutrients
Detrimental: Soy contains anti-nutrients, which interfere with the digestion of proteins (trypsin inhibitors) and the absorption of minerals (phytic acid).
Beneficial: These anti-nutrient substances are deactivated by cooking and fermentation. Cooking before consumption is not unique to soybeans no other beans, peas, or lentils are eaten raw. Although adverse effects on experimental animals have been demonstrated, there is no direct evidence as to the physiological effects of the trypsin inhibitors on humans.2 Interestingly, Phytic acid has anticancer effects in animal models for both colon and breast cancer.3
What I got out of that article was that consuming small quantities of soy is not bad for you. Isolated soy protein, soy protein concentrate, etc., are the things to avoid. Things made with whole soybeans may actually have some health benefits. I didn't see anything that warned against heating soy. In fact, I noted this portion:

I might as well continue eating meat then.
Well, it would also be a good idea to limit that. Too much protein in any form interferes with the body's absorption of certain nutrients (particularly calcium). The reason that I don't eat meat, though, is the dangers of disease, antibiotics, growth hormones, etc. If you are going to eat meat, I would recommend buying organic, kosher meat.
What's sad is that I can't even drink my silk milk anymore, since I have to drink large quantities of it to help with my stomach acid problem. This is bad news!

Have you tried rice milk? My stomach takes rice milk alot better than the silk milk. Also try the other kind from the Asian market. Just make sure soy consumption is in moderation.
Well, with the Silk Milk I usually consume about 32 ounces a day.
Come to think of it though, I recall when I used to drink Rice Dream, it had a soothing effect in my stomach. I'll try it again.
The reason why I switched to Silk Milk was because I was under the impression that it is very good for a person's health. I guess I was wrong.
Hey folks, while we are on the health message, I would like to ask you to remember and inform others: limit your exposure to the sun!
I was not much of a sun bather, I sun bathed moderately and lived in Key West 6 months. Anyway at 35 I have a "precursor" to skin cancer on my shoulder.I have some other spots which I thought were suspicious but didn't have her check at this last office visit, but her first question after looking at the spot on my shoulder was my exposure to the sun.
My exposure is pretty limited when you look at it, but the sun did it's damage.
everything we eat or do is bad for us anymore.

You folks get this question 100+ times, but I would like to know, for anyone who used to eat meat but became a vegetarian, what convicted you and how was the change? How do you feel now?
If you changed for religious reasons, how do you reconcile the fact that Jesus ate Passover lamb? I am not asking that to be disrespectful, I would just like a thought filled dialogue on the matter.
Hi catlover- there is actually no 'true' scientic research that says the sun causes cancer. In the natural health world-we know that God gave us the sun for the 'benefit' of man--not his harm. The true research has shown that it's the poisons under our skin that react with the sun that is causing cancers AND the use of sunscreens.Hey folks, while we are on the health message, I would like to ask you to remember and inform others: limit your exposure to the sun!

"A couple of years ago I saw a PETA poster showing a cute little pig looking over a fence with the caption: "Did your lunch have a face?" It stabbed me in the heart, so to speak, and I haven't eaten meat since. From that point on I vowed not to eat anything with a face. Now I not only feel better, but my conscience is clear."

From a strictly clinical standpoint there are more than enough reaons that could be given to write a fairly large book. I serve on a diabetic advisory counsel for two local hospitals that are trying to get cirtification from the American Diabetes Association. The two greatest contributing factors to diabetes are poor dietary habits, and a lack of excerise. Funny thing though is the fact that every single reason for better dietary habits and excerise related to diabetes also have been shown to have a direct bearing on almost every known health problem. When I first told the rest of the staff, including our own RD, that overall health could be improved without the consumption of flesh foods there were several raised eyebrows. Since I made that statement, and finding that it was true, the hospitals are now offering healthful cooking classes with an emphisis on vegetarian meat replacements."After a few years of being employed in the meat packing industry, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to eat diseased, unsanitary, garbage."
