Question. Who is this person?

Hi, brothers and sisters,
I am looking for someone and am having trouble identifying him.
Please help those of you who are knowledgeable.

He is probably a modern English aristocrat.
He would later convert, but was originally a hard-line anti-Christian apologist, and I believe he wrote several books on the subject.

What is interesting is his conversion experience.
He was out fox hunting and riding his horse. However, his horse was startled by a snake and suddenly jumped up.
He was shaken off his horse and thrown into the air. But to his surprise, he was born again and became a Christian in just a few seconds before he fell to the ground.

I could not find out who he was.
If anyone knows who he is, please let me know.

I don't know, but this sounds very similar to Martin Luther. He was thrown off his horse by, if I remember, the sound of lightning. He then dedicated his life to become a monk. He was German, not English. Hopefully someone will figure out this historical figure for you.

He just mentioned "a certain English nobleman" while saying that the story actually happened, but he didn't say who it was.
It was so long ago that I can't even remember who the preacher was.
