I've been dealing with a struggle for a long period of time concerning something about myself. I have posted a thread concerning this before. I've been asking God what the answer is, but I can't seem to find His answer. Is it possible that Satan is influencing me so that I will do this, and that there is really nothing to my question except being an accessory to Satan? Could God really be answering me and Satan is making it impossible for me to hear? How do I know whether Satan is or is not influencing this? Any suggestions, comments, or criticism is greatly appreciated, as I am desperate.

ok, this is what i have been told to do and it works. spend more time w/ God. u want to be able 2 recognize you best friend's vouce, right, so spend more time w/ Him. another thing that helps me is taking a concordance and looking up the subject. also, something that helps me a lot is taking my Bible and just letting it fall open 2 a page and read that. God has almost always let the Bible fall open 2 a page that helps me

If you just let a Bible fall onto a page, is that considered putting God in a box? I had a similar experience where someone advised me to select a sign and ask God to answer with that sign. I did it multiple times and the results were consistent, but I was later told that I was putting God in a box, something He does not like. Was that wrong of me?

If the answer you are recieving lines up with scripture...it is not from Satan. Measure everything by scripture. If what you are struggling with is not in line with God's word and His law...then you know its not from Him. Pray for strength and give this over to God trusting Him to help you overcome.

Romans 12
21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

1 John 4
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Psalm 17
6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
give ear to me and hear my prayer.

Psalm 20
1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you

Psalm 20
6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed;
he answers him from his holy heaven
with the saving power of his right hand.

Psalm 34
4 I sought the LORD , and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

I'm not sure if the answers I am receiving line up with the Scriptures, or if it doesn't parallel His law. I did, however, tell Satan to leave me in the name of the Lord every time I attempted to receive a sign, but if God doesn't approve of selecting a sign, then maybe He didn't affect Satan.

I think I can see what God is telling you. He's saying that Satan has no power over of you, ever again. So stop worrying about Satan altogether. Whatever it is that is concerning you, God has forgiven you for. Nothing can come between the love of God and you. Not a single thing. Well, there is one. The one thing is you. I'll get to that later. Read what St Paul said.

Rom 8:35 Who will come between us and the love of Christ? Will trouble, or pain, or cruel acts, or the need of food or of clothing, or danger, or the sword?
Rom 8:36 As it is said in the holy Writings, Because of you we are put to death every day; we are like sheep ready for destruction.
Rom 8:37 But we are able to overcome all these things and more through his love.
Rom 8:38 For I am certain that not death, or life, or angels, or rulers, or things present, or things to come, or powers,
Rom 8:39 Or things on high, or things under the earth, or anything which is made, will be able to come between us and the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Have confidence in the words of St Paul. Whatever it is in your life that your dealing with, God's love is bigger than that thing. Seek forgiveness. Forgive yourself. How many times do you seek forgiveness? As many times as it takes to overcome. God is patient. Your not expected to be perfect overnight, nor are you expected to be perfect in this lifetime. You'll be perfect in heaven. Your flesh may be still weighed down by sin, but in God's eyes your flesh is dead. He sees your new washed clean spirit, perfect as his Son, Jesus Christ is perfect. Concentrate on loving God and spend less time kicking yours flesh for the things it does. God killed that flesh and kicked it do death already. When you let go of the condemnation of sin, you free yourself to grow and mature in God. Constantly condemning yourself brings despair and you don't need to despair. The only thing standing between you and God is you believing your not good enough for God. You are good enough. Now believe it and overcome. One little challenge at a time and in little steps, and you will overcome.

When Jesus was on the cross, he said to God, "Why have you turned away from me?" Even Jesus felt what it was like to not know where God was. Thats because he was a man, a real man. He might have been God too, but in that moment, he was as real a man, as any man that ever walked the Earth. Your no different. Cry out and say, "Why have you turned away from me God?", just like Jesus did. Did God come through for Jesus? Not until after he was dead! Imagine how dissapointed Jesus felt. Imagine how desperate he felt as he was dying there thinking God had deserted him. God did come through for him. 3 days later he's alive again. Who'd a thunk it, Jesus might be sayiing at the time, as he feels his new body. Here he was dying on the cross and thinking it God had deserted him at his final moment, and then he's walking around again, talking to the disciples. God will come through for you too. Your going to get desperate sometimes, but never lose hope in God's promise. He won't let you down. God's bigger, tougher and smarter than Satan. He's got your back covered already. Satan won't be giving you no trouble anymore. You on the other hand can give yourself more trouble than two Satans put together if you can't believe that Gods bigger than all that. Listen to St Paul, and the words he spoke. Your problem may seem big, but it doesn't matter how big it is. God is bigger.

What do you do when you don't know what is true?

Ideally, you admit you don't know. There is no shame in not knowing. I'm 40 years old and don't know a lot of things. I had to find ways of dealing with that lack of knowledge, because sometimes you have to make a decision without sufficient knowledge. One way I deal with it, is to trust that God knows I am doing the best I can with what I do know. I know it's not reasonable to think that God will punish me for being ignorant. So if I make a decision that is wrong, because I didn't know any better, then God is fully aware of why I made that mistake and will be gracious in his judgement. Try to concentrate on the things you know to be true inside yourself and apply some skepticism to things people try to tell you are true that you find hard to take on board. This is part of being true to yourself. That is making decisions based on what you believe is right, not on what others believe is right. Another important aspect of making decisions is not to let fear sway you. Fear of the unknown is a fear that skews peoples thinking, for instance. Fear of loss is another. Make your decisions on what you think is right, even if it looks like it might have consequences that scare you. Oh, and additionally be ready to admit your wrong if your decison ends up being a bad one.

Some decision will be good, some will be bad. Your going to be called to make many decisions in life. You do your best, thats all you can do. God knows this.

I'm afraid that I may make the incorrect decision. I know that I have made many wrong decisions and will continue to for the rest of my life, but I'm confident that the answer is somewhere. I do keep my fear of making the incorrect decision at bay. I don't think God will punish me for my ignorance either, but I would just like to obviate all of that and make the correct decision.

Again thank you for all of the replies. I really appreciate them.

Your personal tag on your post indicates that you are a Christian. No offense, but I try never to assume anything when offering advice and council. If you are the Lord's all you need do is resist the devil and he will flee from you. The easiest and fastest way to drive Satan, or demonic influence away is by sincere honest and open praise of the Lord, the more vocal the better.

As a Christian, the more severe forms of demonic influence can only effect you if you open the door to it. No, not like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we're talking real evil powers at work. There are three forms of demonic influence that are possible. These are, listed from least to most dangerous; demonic influence, demonic obsession and demonic possession. All three, for a Christian have to be invited into you life.

The problem lies in that it doesn't take much of an invitation to get the ball rolling. Demonic influence is the least powerful form. You find yourself plagued with odd out of character thoughts or focusing on sins or evil that would normal repulse you. You can open the door to this by actions thatmay appear as innocent as consulting a "Magic 8 Ball" believing that you can get direction from it. Reading your horoscope, seeing a fortune teller or Tarot card reader. By actions which seek to gain information or insight from some supernatural means other than Scripture you invite evil into your life.

I experienced demonic influence while in Bible college. I had to do a paper on Demonic influence, obsession and Possession in the life of believer's. While doing the research I had trouble reading and studying my Bible, praying and definitely preaching. My mind would wonder and I couldn't focus. I experienced horrible nightmares during the entire project. The worst came at the end.

I am ancient enough that I had to do this paper on and old mechanical typewriter using carbon paper to make copies. I finished typing the final draft about three hours before I had to turn it in. I put both copies in folders and put them in my briefcase. When I got to class all I had in my briefcase was the carbon paper. Both copies were gone. I found them 2 days later in a drawer in my desk at the Church I was Pastoring. I had never even worked on the paper there, much less taken them down there after finishing typing them.

After turning in the copies to my professor, I trashed all my notes and prayed asking the Lord to purge any demonic influence I had invited in while researching the paper. After that all the craziness stopped, completely.

The second, and more powerful activity is demonic obsession. This usually starts simply also. Demonic influence that isn't rejected and rebuked becomes an overwhelming obsession. The thinking of the individual may actually be controlled to the point that it is hard to delineate between obsession and possession. Morbid thoughts of death or killing may constantly on the obsessed individuals mind.

Possession most often occures from an active participation in occultic activity. Seances, wiccan practice, black magic, consulting a medium. All of these things invite demonic control into your life. There are many who would argue that Christians can't be possessed. However, in I Corinthians Paul talks about turning over a believer living in an adulterous relationship with his father's wife to Satan for the destruction of his body and the salvation of his soul. This sounds like possession to me. Missionaries who serve in countries where the is a lot of occultic practice relate many stories of Christians being possessed.

The point of all this is that unless you have opened yourself up to demonic activity in this or a similar manner, chances are your problem isn't Satan. It sounds like you are giving Satan more credit than he is due, and way too much thought.

Not having seen your other post regarding your problem I can only advise generally. If this is a problem with overcoming a sin or temptation in your life and you are praying that the Lord deliver you from the problem, your answer is easy. It isn't Satan or a demon that is keeping you from hearing God's response. You are experiencing God's response. Are you familiar with the passage: No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to b tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

If we pray asking to be delivered from a temptation God's response is to bring that temptation into our lives ove and over again until we see and grasp the way of escape that He has provided. If you are in this situation and aren't aware that this is how God answers prayer for overcoming temptation, it can certainlly look like either God isn't answering or Satan is stopping the answer from getting through. I assure you that isn't the case.

I hope that this helps.

It's paradoxical that a rational person is going to assume demonic forces are moving papers about yet imply that listening to one's inner voice is a signal to mental illness. But I needed a sardonic moment.

KJV Biblical Scripture -

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1 King 19:11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; [but] the LORD [was] not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the LORD [was] not in the earthquake:
1 King 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

"The Personality and Deity of the Holy Spirit"
By Rev. R. A. Torrey, D.D.

All the distinctive characteristics of personality are ascribed to the Holy Spirit in the Bible.
What are the distinctive characteristics or marks of personality? Knowledge, feeling and will. Any being who knows and feels and wills is a person. When you say that the Holy Spirit is a person, some understand you to mean that the Holy Spirit has hands and feet and eyes and nose, and so on, but these are the marks, not of personality, but of corporeity, When we say that the Holy Spirit is a person, we mean that He is not a mere influence or power that God sends into our lives but that He is a Being who knows and feels and wills, These three characteristics of personality, knowledge, feeling and will, are ascribed to the Holy Spirit over and over again in the Scriptures.

It seems to me that you really are worried about something and unable to share the sensitive info. Fear is the opposite if faith. Fear can get in the way of God's answer to you. If there is one thing I can suggest is to find a leader in your church that you can conide in. Tell that person everything that is beating you down. Satan knows what our weaknesses areand he exploits them, uses them against you. If you get rid of satan's tool, how can he beat you with it? Forgiveness to others and yourself is key to bring closure to your issues.
I hope I helped.

I had a sister who listened to the voice inside, until they diagnosed adolescent onset schizophrenia. After a few years of medication she is much better now. Listening to voices inside is the last thing that any rational person wants to do.
Been there done that.

I have learned to be more relaxed about getting an answer from God. His wisdom and timing is often different from mine.

There are issues that God may well leave to our own judgement, based on common sense, good advice, prayer and thoughful consideration of the various options.

Forget Satan. He always has a ball when we give him centre stage. Make your relationship with and understanding of Jesus your focus.

DO NOT!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT LISTEN TO THE VOICES INSIDE.....The devil uses voices in you head to make it seem as thought thye're your thoughts.....do not use,, I've had so many of those times when I did listen to them, and bad things happened.....so don't do it....make sure they're from your heart and not just from your brain.
